The serendipitous impact of COVID-19 pandemic: A rare opportunity for research and practice
2020
Highlights • The Covid-19 pandemic is a rare opportunity to examine some fundamental aspects of IM and IS research and practice. • There are at least three areas where the pandemic has impacted practice: information management, work practices and design of technologies. • The IS discipline has appropriate methods and theories to study the design of technologies and social interactions. • Concepts such as “social distancing” that has emerged in the pandemic need to be studied through philosophical premises. • The IM practices that emerge after the pandemic is over, will be shaped by how well we seize the opportunity to learn from the pandemic.
La vita e lo spirito. Hegel e Henry
2018
The phenomenology of life has a fundamental, difficult relationship with the Hegelian conception of the spirit. The ‘immanent dialectics’ of life is in opposition to the necessary passage of the Hegelian spirit for the manifestation meant as alienation. The essay attempts to highlight, not least through the analysis of the concept of suffering, not only the debt that Henry contracts with some aspects of Hegelian dialectics, but also the problematic consequences of his peremptory rejection of Hegelian belonging of the negative to the being.
Relational Communication in Intercultural Couples
2006
This qualitative study utilises the relational dialectics of Baxter and Montgomery (1996) to examine the relationship communication of six heterosexual intercultural couples living in Finland. In this study, I attempt to answer the following questions: what cultural issues are relevant in the couples' relationship? What intercultural relational dialectics do the intercultural couples experience in their relationship? The interviews are based on a concept map, and were recorded, transcribed, and analysed qualitatively. The findings are categorised under two headers: cultural issues and intercultural relational dialectics. The cultural issues consist of the following topics: language and comm…
Differential Change of Borderline Personality Disorder Traits During Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents
2019
Despite the expansion of treatment options for adults with borderline personality disorder (BPD), research on treatment options for adolescent BPD is scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of dialectical behavior therapy for adolescents (DBT-A) on the individual trait level as primary outcome; and the frequency of suicide attempts and nonsuicidal self-injury, self-reported BPD core pathology, and general psychopathology as secondary outcomes. Seventy-two adolescents (aged 12–17 years) with full- or subsyndromal BPD were treated with DBT-A (25 single sessions, 20 sessions of skills training), and 13 patients (18.1%) withdrew during treatment. From baseline to post-treat…
The Dialectical Movement Between Deprivation and Preservation of a Person's Life Space: A Question of Nursing Home Residents' Dignity.
2016
The aim of this study was to answer the question "What do nursing home residents do themselves in order to maintain their dignity?" Twenty-eight residents, 8 men and 20 women, aged 62 to 103 years, from 6 different nursing homes in Scandinavia were interviewed. The results showed that the residents tried to expand their life space, both physical and ontological, in order to experience health and dignity.

2019
Although Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics and Derrida's deconstruction are two important school of thoughts on the theory of interpretation, there are little connections between them. Especially after the unsuccessful meeting between Derrida and Gadamer at Paris in 1981, there were practically no collaborations between the two camps. As a result, the existing literatures comparing these two school of thoughts suffer two general problems. First, most focus only on their 1981 debate at Paris. Secondly, even for the commentators who take a wider approach, the investigation is often one-sided, simplifying too much the opposing side of the debate. The present project takes into consideration …
