Effects of carbohydrate content on body composition during weight loss in female fitness competitors

2017

Introduction. Bodybuilders and fitness competitors are aiming to reduce fat mass and maintain lean mass during the competition phase. Low carbohydrate diets compared to low fat diets have claimed to be more effective in weight loss, but the results are still controversial. Low carbohydrate intake and high protein intake have been reported in bodybuilders during the diet, but the evidence of its effectiveness is limited. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of carbohydrate content on body composition during weight loss in female fitness competitors. Methods. A total of 50 female subjects participated in this study, 27 were competitors, and 23 were weight training stable controls.…

Dysfunctional High-Density Lipoproteins Are Associated With a Greater Incidence of Acute Coronary Syndrome in a Population at High Cardiovascular Risk

2020

Background: Studies have failed to establish a clear link between high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and cardiovascular disease, leading to the hypothesis that the atheroprotective role of HDL lies in its biological activity rather than in its cholesterol content. However, to date, the association between HDL functional characteristics and acute coronary syndrome has not been investigated comprehensively. Methods: We conducted a case-control study nested within the PREDIMED (Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea) cohort, originally a randomized trial in which participants followed a Mediterranean or low-fat diet. Incident acute coronary syndrome cases (N=167) were individually matched …

- IVe s. apr. J.-C.) Suisse, canton de Vaud

2010

This first synthesis concerns the animal bones, discovered since 1975 in Aventicum, the capital of Roman Switzerland. It is supported by the analysis of several residential districts, public sectors and suburbs, which represent five hundred chronological complexes and 74000 animal bones, dated from the Ist, to the IVth Century AD. During these centuries, Aventicum was incorporated to the Roman province of Gallia Belgica, then was raised to the status of a colonia and finally declined with the Empire. The analysis of bones was made to study various mutations which occurred during the occupation of the city. They include an improvement of breeding techniques, a new internal city organisation, …

Macrophage scavenger receptor 1 mediates lipid-induced inflammation in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

2022

Background & Aims: Obesity-associated inflammation is a key player in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the role of macrophage scavenger receptor 1 (MSR1, CD204) remains incompletely understood. Methods: A total of 170 NAFLD liver biopsies were processed for transcriptomic analysis and correlated with clinicopathological features. Msr1(-/-) and wild-type mice were subjected to a 16-week high-fat and high-cholesterol diet. Mice and ex vivo human liver slices were treated with a monoclonal antibody against MSR1. Genetic susceptibility was assessed using genome-wide association study data from 1,483 patients with NAFLD and 430,101 participants of the U…

Dietary water seems to improve skin hydration without influencing hemodynamics

2013

The various studies on the importance of water in the hydration of human skin have suggested that an increased dietary intake might positively impact the physiology of normal skin. We evaluated the consequences of increasing water intake through drinking in skin hydration in vivo. Eating habits were maintained, evaluated by a Food Frequency Questionnaire and based on total water consumption. In two groups with different total water consumption, we evaluated the impact of 2L/day water after 30 days,. This increase produced no hemodynamic changes or weight changes but an improvement in the epidermal hydration was suggested. The magnitude of the impact on skin hydration was higher in the group…

Svensklärares uppfattningar om dyslexi och inlärningsstrategier på högstadiet. Två fallstudier.

2010

Tutkielmamme tarkoituksena on ottaa selvää yläasteen ruotsin opettajien käsityksiä oppilaista, joilla on dysleksia sekä miten he ottavat tällaiset oppilaat opetuksessa huomioon. Tämän lisäksi haluamme selvittää, mitä oppimisstrategiat merkitsevät heille ja kuinka he tuovat niitä esille opetuksessaan. Käytimme Oxfordin (1990) strategialuokittelua opettajien mainitsemien strategioiden luokitteluun.

Vanadium-based Ziegler-Natta catalyst supported on MgCl2(THF)2 for ethylene polymerization

1996

A supported magnesium‐vanadium‐aluminium catalyst was prepared by depositing –with the use of a milling technique–VOCl3 on the MgCl2(THF)2 support and subsequent activation with diethylaluminium chloride. Catalytic activity of the obtained system for ethylene polymerization was evaluated as a function of Mg/V and Al/V ratios as well as catalyst ageing time and polymerization temperature. High concentrations of THF in the catalytic system and considerable excess of an organoaluminium co‐catalyst were found to have no deactivating action on vanadium active sites. The catalyst obtained is stable and its activity for ethylene polymerization is high. It yields polyethylene with higher molecular …
