Resurrection of Pomphorhynchus tereticollis (Rudolphi, 1809) (Acanthocephala: Pomphorhynchidae) based on new morphological and molecular data

Abstract Pomphorhynchus tereticollis (Rudolphi, 1809) is here redescribed on the basis of Rudolphi’s material, deposited in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, and on acanthocephalans recently collected from the type host Platichthys flessus (L.) and the region embodying the type locality. Out of the paratypes of P. tereticollis, the lectotype and paralectotypes have been designated. Their morphology fits well with that of newly collected material of P. tereticollis dissected from the type fish host from the Baltic coast near Stralsund. Even though it is known for more than one decade that antigen-encoding RNA can deliver antigenic information to induce antigen-specific immunity against cancer, the nature and mechanism of RNA uptake have remained enigmatic. In this study, we investigated the pharmacokinetics of naked RNA administered into the lymph node. We observed that RNA is rapidly and selectively uptaken by lymph node dendritic cells (DCs). Furthermore, in vitro and in vivo studies revealed that the efficient internalization of RNA by human and murine DCs is primarily driven by macropinocytosis. Summary The lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity was studied in cultured beating heart cells of the post natal rat as a function of the culture age, from the freshly trypsinized cell suspension up to the 14th day of culture. The LPL activity remains at a practically stationary level during the first four days of culture, and then increases rapidly to reach a plateau, at a level 3–4 times higher at the 21th day of culturing. The significance of this enzymatic activity progression comparing to 3H thymidine incorporation from the point of view of cell differentiation is discussed. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) were discovered in 1990, ending 25 years of uncertainty about the molecular mechanisms of peroxisome proliferation. Subsequently, PPARs have improved our understanding of adipocyte differentiation. But there is more to PPARs than solving a puzzle about an organelle (the peroxisome) long considered an oddity, and their medical significance goes beyond obesity too. Enhanced PPAR type alpha expression protects against cardiovascular disorders though the role of enhanced PPARgamma expression seems less favourable.
