The use of soil electrical resistivity to monitor plant and soil water relationships in vineyards

2015

Abstract. Soil water availability deeply affects plant physiology. In viticulture it is considered as a major contributor to the "terroir" expression. The assessment of soil water in field conditions is a difficult task especially over large surfaces. New techniques, are therefore required to better explore variations of soil water content in space and time with low disturbance and with great precision. Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) meets these requirements, for applications in plant sciences, agriculture and ecology. In this paper, possible techniques to develop models that allow the use of ERT to spatialise soil water available to plants are reviewed. An application of soil wate…

Typology of exogenous organic matters based on chemical and biochemical composition to predict potential nitrogen mineralization

2010

Our aim was to develop a typology predicting potential N availability of exogenous organic matters (EOMs) in soil based on their chemical characteristics. A database of 273 EOMs was constructed including analytical data of biochemical fractionation, organic C and N, and results of N mineralization during incubation of soil–EOM mixtures in controlled conditions. Multiple factor analysis and hierarchical classification were performed to gather EOMs with similar composition and N mineralization behavior. A typology was then defined using composition criteria to predict potential N mineralization. Six classes of EOM potential N mineralization in soil were defined, from high potential N minerali…

Background: The measurement of carbon isotopic discrimination in grape sugars at harvest (δ13 C) is an integrated assessment of water status during ripening. It is an efficient alternative to assess variability in the field and discriminate between management zones in precision viticulture, but further work is needed to completely understand the signal.; Results: This work, spanning over 3 years, performed in a hillslope toposequence in Burgundy, delineates the relationships between main soil properties (gravel amount, slope, texture) and the grapevine water status assessed by δ13 C. The highest δ13 C, indicating most severe water deficit, was recorded in gravelly soils on steep slopes. The…

Meat substitutes: formulations and comparative analysis: micronutrient intakes

2021

The nutritional quality of a food is not only assessed by its protein intake and the quality of proteinintake, but also by its intake of trace elements. Animal products are the only sources of vitamin B12, apartfrom pharmaceutical food supplements. The amounts of other B vitamins are much greater in meatproducts: 4 to 6 times higher for vitamin B1, 2 to 20 times for vitamin B2, 5 to 30 times for vitamin B3, 2 to 12 times for vitamin B5, 2 to 100 times for vitamin B5, as much as 30 times for vitamin B6. Less markedly, the mineral content is also higher for cooked meat or cooked meat products compared to a ready-to-eatvegetable analogue: from 2 to 9 times more zinc in meat products than in ana…

2020

Low-level clouds are key components of the climate but are not well represented in weather and climate models. Recently it has been shown that an extensive low-level cloud cover develops during the June-September main dry season in western equatorial Africa, from the coastal plains of Gabon and Congo-Brazzaville to the inland plateaus downstream of the low-mountain crests. Such a cloudy main dry season is unique in the moist Tropics and is likely to explain the presence of the densest and evergreen forests of Central Africa as evapotranspiration is low and the quality of light is high. The ANR-DFG funded “DYVALOCCA” project will conduct from 2020 to 2022 a field campaign, raise existing in-…
