Guiding and confinement of interface acoustic waves in solid-fluid pillar-based phononic crystals
2016
International audience; Pillar-based phononic crystals exhibit some unique wave phenomena due to the interaction between surface acoustic modes of the substrate and local resonances supported by pillars. In this paper, we extend the investigations by taking into account the presence of a liquid medium. We particularly demonstrate that local resonances dramatically decrease the phase velocity of Scholte-Stoneley wave, which leads to a slow wave at the solid/fluid interface. Moreover, we show that increasing the height of pillars introduces a new set of branches of interface modes and drastically affects the acoustic energy localization. Indeed, while some modes display a highly confined pres…
Acoustic properties of plates with unevenly distributed macro perforations backed by woven meshes
2012
A hybrid model describing the acoustic properties of plates with macro-perforations that can be unevenly distributed on the plate surface and backed by woven or precision woven meshes with microscopic perforations is proposed. The plate perforations may be of circular or rectangular shapes. Since the perforated plate may not necessarily be considered as an equivalent fluid, its surface impedance is calculated by the Maa model [Noise Control Eng. J. 29, 77-84 (1987)], whereas the Johnson-Champoux-Allard model [J. Appl. Phys. 70, 1975-1979 (1991)] is used for the mesh. It is observed that the absorption of the carrying plate seems to depend on the hydraulic diameter of the perforations and no…
Expansion dynamics of the plasma plume formed by the impact of a nanosecond Nd : YAG laser beam on metallic surface under atmospheric conditions : ex…
2010
Laser ablation in the air at atmospheric pressure is nowadays frequently applied in industry, chemical analysis, surgery… For a further development of laser ablation based technologies, it is necessary to better understand the laser – matter interaction. During the impact of a laser pulse on the surface of the treated material, a plasma plume forms above the target surface. This plume contains particles (electrons, ions, atoms) of ablated matter, as well as of ambient gas, if present. During the laser pulse, this plume absorbs a large amount of the laser beam energy, thus reducing the quantity of the laser radiation arriving to the target surface. Dimensions, as well as parameters of this p…
Nonlinear resonances and some of their applications to information processing
2021
The study of resonance phenomena in nonlinear dynamical systems has drawn considerable attention for years. The most studied nonlinear resonance is undoubtedly the famous stochastic resonance, which consists of perturbing a nonlinear system with an appropriate amount of noise to enhance the detection of a subthreshold input signal. Since the introduction of stochastic resonance in the context of climate dynamics, it was later observed that a deterministic high frequency perturbation can replace noise leading to vibrational resonance. Even if this latter resonance was investigated in many areas of science for more than two decades now, it is still receiving attentions. It is the subject of t…
Switch in Relative Stability between cis and trans 2-Butene on Pt(111) as a Function of Experimental Conditions: A Density Functional Theory Study
2018
International audience; The adsorption of cis and trans 2-butenes on Pt(111) has been studied as a function of hydrogen coverage OH by means of calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) with the inclusion of dispersion forces. All hydrogen coverages have been considered, from 0 to 1.00 monolayer (ML). For each case, the di-sigma and pi adsorption geometries of the olefins have been compared at a surface coverage of theta(C4H8) = 0.11 ML. Calculations of the Gibbs free energies of these systems have identified the most stable 2-butene isomer (cis or trans) as a function of coverage, temperature, and pressure. In particular, focus was placed on two sets of conditions, namely, one …
Long-term changes in breeding bird community of a Primeval Temperate Forest: 45 years of Censuses in the Białowieża National Park (Poland)
2022
W pracy omówiono długoterminowe trendy zmian liczebności 30 leśnych, pospolitych ptaków lęgowych na 7 stałych powierzchniach próbnych w Białowieskim Parku Narodowym w latach 1975– 2019 (wschodnia Polska, dalej BPN, Fig. 1). Przeanalizowano zmiany w składzie ugrupowań ptaków lęgowych w trzech najważniejszych typach drzewostanów pierwotnych w BPN: łęgach (Fig. 2), grądach (Fig. 3) i borach (Fig. 4).

Harmonic Balance Method and Stability of Discontinuous Systems
2019
The development of the theory of discontinuous dynamical systems and differential inclusions was not only due to research in the field of abstract mathematics but also a result of studies of particular problems in mechanics. One of first methods, used for the analysis of dynamics in discontinuous mechanical systems, was the harmonic balance method developed in the thirties of the 20th century. In our work the results of analysis obtained by the method of harmonic balance, which is an approximate method, are compared with the results obtained by rigorous mathematical methods and numerical simulation. peerReviewed
