The integration of information technologies in the knowledge based organizations

2016

Relations between the users' expertise, complexity of tasks to be solved by knowledge-based organizations and mission of smart information systems, is a multi-dimensional structure that should provide the necessary conceptual framework of sustainable integrated smart development. The users of smart information systems face a variety of problems, such as: system access, data recovery, identifying and retrieving a specific document and its contents, and difficulties associated with understanding and interpreting of the used system on stages and methods following to be used, respectively problems on understanding the meaning of information provided. Using smart information systems and smart da…

Diagnosing and measuring learning organizations

2005

PurposeTo explore and analyse various learning organizations and to attempt to outline the form of a holistic learning organization.Design/methodology/approachThe tool described in this article is a continuation of the work published in a Licentiate thesis in 1996 and developed further in a doctoral dissertation in 2001. The Learning Organization Diamond Tool is based on a holistic concept of a learning organization being regarded as a structure of related elements: driving forces, finding purpose, questioning, empowering and evaluation at two interconnected levels of individuals and the whole. Data from 686 respondents were gathered from 25 Finnish organizations in 1998.FindingsThe outcome…

Diagnostic tools for learning organizations

2001

Aims first, to develop an instrument for a holistic analysis of learning organizations; and second, to test the validity and reliability of this instrument. The framework developed was mainly influenced by the work of Mike Pedler, Tom Boydell and John Burgoyne, Peter M. Senge as well as Chris Argyris and Donald A. Schön. Analyses eight existing diagnosis tools. The Learning Organization Diamond Tool was based on a concept of a learning organization regarded as a structure of related elements. Data consisting of 691 answers were gathered from 25 Finnish organizations in 1998. After analysis the reliability of the instrument was measured with Cronbach’s alpha. Cronbach’s alphas for the elemen…

Managing Talent for Organisational Learning

2011

[EN] The phenomenon of globalisation and the intensification of change mean that firms increasingly require an internal structure that fosters the genesis and application of new knowledge. If the firm's objective is to achieve continuous learning then organisational variables and managerial purpose through talent management are essential for access to superior knowledge assets. This study takes an in-depth look at the relationship between a political phenomenon (talent management) and a natural one (organisational learning and/or knowledge creation) within a particular organisational framework. The aim is to obtain evidence of the effect of organisational variables on learning and knowledge…

Is small and medium-sized beautiful? The structure and evolution of family SMEs research

2021

PurposeThe field of scientific research on small and medium-sized family businesses has been growing exponentially and the aim of this paper is to systematize the body of knowledge to develop an agenda for the future.Design/methodology/approachAdopting comparative bibliometric analyses on 155 articles (from 1989 until 2018) the authors provide a systematic assessment of the scientific research about small family firms, unveiling the structure and evolution of the field. Bibliographic coupling, co-citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis are adopted to identify the most influential studies and themes.FindingsFour clusters of research are reviewed: succession in family SMEs, performances …

Conceptual evaluation of methods for engineering situational ISD methods

2006

In the past decades a large variety of techniques and methods have been introduced for software engineering (SE) and information system development (ISD). Despite this plurality, there is a need in organizations and projects to customize methods that match with their specific needs. Method engineering (ME) is the process by which a situational method is developed, customized and configured. ME work has appeared to be difficult and burdensome to carry out in practice. One reason for this is a lack of adequate methodical support. In this article, we profile and evaluate conceptually, using a contextual framework as a basis, seven comprehensive ME artifacts (i.e. techniques, procedures and met…

Logic for accumulation of design science research theory

2014

The paper introduces a structured logic for iterative and incremental accumulation of a design theory during a research project and across research programs. The logic is proposed to help researchers understand the links between parallel search spaces related to a particular design and linking to theoretical knowledge bases produced by previous search processes. The proposition rests on the notion that representing the structure and logic of design science research (DSR) theory using CIMO enables the elements of the knowledge base to be more easily evaluated, combined, and transferred between related search spaces. We view DSR theory development as an iterative and incremental social proces…

Time scale of an early to mid-Paleozoic orogenic cycle of the long-lived Central Asian Orogenic Belt, Inner Mongolia of China: Implications for conti…

2008

Abstract We present a detailed, new time scale for an orogenic cycle (oceanic accretion–subduction–collision) that provides significant insights into Paleozoic continental growth processes in the southeastern segment of the long-lived Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB). The most prominent tectonic feature in Inner Mongolia is the association of paired orogens. A southern orogen forms a typical arc-trench complex, in which a supra-subduction zone ophiolite records successive phases during its life cycle: birth (ca. 497–477 Ma), when the ocean floor of the ophiolite was formed; (2) youth (ca. 473–470 Ma), characterized by mantle wedge magmatism; (3) shortly after maturity (ca. 461–450 Ma), hi…

Knowledge Extraction from Healthcare Data Using User-Adaptable Keywords-Based Query Language

2020

Nowadays, the volume of the information gathered by any organization increases more and more rapidly. It is essential to be able to use this information efficiently for it to benefit the operation of the organization. There is no point of gathering the information if it is not converted into knowledge. The knowledge extraction process becomes the backbone of any successful organization. Moreover, the extraction of the knowledge must be quick and efficient, so that the newly-obtained knowledge can be put in use at once. The problem addressed in this paper is how to allow the domain expert to extract the knowledge from their information systems themselves without involving the third party in …

Los fundamentos del enfoque cualitativo en la innovación de la enseñanza geográfica

2018

In the paradigmatic and epistemological advances of the 20 th century, the qualitative approach stands out as a reference for building social knowledge, understanding the validity of traditional foundations in geographical education and proposing pedagogical and didactic contributions in the innovation of its educational work. This led us pose the following question: What task do the foundations of the qualitative approach fulfill in the innovation of the teaching of Geography? In this regard, a bibliographical review was carried out to structure a methodology that analyzes the qualitative approach in the teaching of Geography. Likewise, aspects derived from an investigation that claims the…
