The role of reading difficulties in the associations between task values, efficacy beliefs, and achievement emotions
2018
The aim of this study was to examine the situational associations of reading-related task values and efficacy beliefs with achievement emotions, and whether these associations are moderated by reading difficulties (RD). The sample comprised 128 Finnish sixth-grade students (66 with no reading difficulties [No RD], 31 with mild reading difficulties [Mild RD], and 31 with severe reading difficulties [Severe RD]) who were randomized to complete either a non-challenging or challenging reading task. Students reported their reading-related task values (attainment and interest) and efficacy beliefs right before and their achievement emotions both before and after performing the reading task. The r…
Self-Efficacy, Satisfaction, and Academic Achievement: The Mediator Role of Students Expectancy-Value Beliefs
2017
Although there is considerable evidence to support the direct effects of self-efficacy beliefs on academic achievement, very few studies have explored the motivational mechanism that mediates the self-efficacy–achievement relationship, and they are necessary to understand how and why self-efficacy affects students’ academic achievement. Based on a socio-cognitive perspective of motivation, this study examines the relationships among academic self-efficacy, students’ expectancy-value beliefs, teaching process satisfaction, and academic achievement. Its main aim is to identify some motivational-underlying processes through which students’ academic self-efficacy affects student achievement and…
Warm white LED light by frequency down-conversion of mixed yellow and red Lumogen®
2013
This work reports on the benefits and promising opportunities offered by white LED hybrid technology, based on a mixing perylene-based dyes in order to obtain a warm white light for frequency-down conversion. In a standard Ce:YAG-based white LED, the white light appears cold due to the weakness of red wavelength components in the emission spectrum. In order to obtain a warmer white, one possible solution is to add a red phosphor to the yellow one to move the chromatic coordinates properly, though the luminous efficiency drastically decreases due to the increased light absorption of the coating layer. It is generally believed that the low efficiency of warm white LEDs is the main issue today…
Teacher burnout explained : teacher-, student-, and organisation-level variables
2021
Understanding the factors related to teacher burnout helps in creating schools which foster teachers’ job satisfaction and the delivery of high-quality education. We studied teacher burnout and its three subdomains across several teacher-, student-, and organisation-level variables, including teacher category, class size, number of students with support needs, attitudes towards inclusive education, and availability of support. The participants were 4567 Finnish primary school teachers consisting of 2080 classroom teachers, 1744 subject teachers, 438 special-class and 305 resource room teachers. Several associations between teacher burnout and the background variables were observed and recom…
Psychological correlates of physical activity and exercise preferences in metropolitan and nonmetropolitan cancer survivors
2021
Objective Interventions to increase physical activity (PA) in cancer survivors have often adopted a ‘one‐size‐fits‐all’ approach, and may benefit from being tailored to psychological constructs associated with behavior. The study objective was to investigate the exercise preferences and psychological constructs related to PA among cancer survivors. Methods Post‐treatment colorectal, endometrial, and breast cancer survivors (n=183) living in metropolitan and non‐metropolitan areas completed survey measures of PA, exercise preferences, attitudes, self‐efficacy, perceived behavioral control (PBC), and intention toward PA. Results A structural equation model with adequate fit and quality indice…
Prevalence of endodontic infection in patients with Crohn ́s disease and ulcerative colitis
2021
[Background] Previous studies have linked apical periodontitis (AP) to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of this study was to compare the prevalence of AP and root canal treatment (RCT) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn ́s disease (CD).
Izdegšanas, darba nedrošības izjūtas, uztvertā organizācijas atbalsta un amata pārslodzes saistība māsu profesijā
2022
Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot saistības starp izdegšanu, darba nedrošības izjūtu, uztverto organizācijas atbalstu un amata pārslodzi māsu profesijā. Pētījumā piedalījās 279 respondenti vecumā no 19 – 73 gadiem, ar vidējo vecumu 42,53 gadi. Pētījuma ietvaros tika izmantotas četras aptaujas: Maslakas izdegšanas aptauja – vispārīgā aptauja (Maslach Burnout Inventory – General Survey, MBI – GS, Maslach C., Jackson S.E. & Leiter M.P., 1996), Darba nedrošības izjūtas aptauja (Job Insecurity Scale - O´Neill and Sevastos’,2013, Uztvertā organizācijas atbalsta skala (Perceived Organizational Support Scale - Eisenberger, Huntington, Hutchinson, & Sowa, 1986) un Darba pārslodzes skala (Work Overlo…
Pētījuma datu ievākšanai izmantotas trīs aptaujas: Norvēģu skolotāju pašefektivitātes skala (Norwegian Teacher Self–Efficacy Scale (NTSES), Skaalvik & Skaalvik, 2007; skalu Latvijā adaptējusi G. Virse, 2015), Maslačas Skolotāju izdegšanas aptauja (Maslach Burnout Inventory – Educator’s Survey (MBI-ES), Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 1996; Latvijā aptauju adaptēja L. Riekstiņa-Avotiņa, 2003 un N. Paškeviča, 2005), Skolotāju – skolēnu attiecību aptauja (Teacher – Student Rel…
