Eye diseases are the second most prevalent pathologies after the age of 65 years. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss in western countries. The number of people suffering from ocular pathologies is expected to increase sharply in the near future, becoming a socio-economic burden. Recent data indicate that lipid nutrients may represent new tools in the prevention of eye diseases, and especially AMD.

The progressive aging process of Polish society is becoming an increasing challenge for central, regional and local authorities. The increase in the number of elderly people influences the growing demand for health and care services. Postępujący proces starzenia się polskiego społeczeństwa wpływa na zwiększające się zapotrzebowanie na usługi zdrowotne i opiekuńcze. Aby wykazać, w których regionach kraju istnieją największe możliwości rozwoju prywatnej inicjatywy w zakresie świadczenia usług zdrowotnych i opiekuńczych, opracowano diagnozę stopnia zaspokojenia tych potrzeb osób starszych (65+) w poszczególnych województwach w Polsce w 2015 r. Pre-retirement and senior population groups are more affected by activity limitations, unemployment and bad perceived health than population in active ages. Data for Latvia and other EU countries demonstrate a warning situation – socio-economic inequalities among elderly are not diminishing as fast as was expected. The aim of the paper is to analyse healthy and active life in pre-retirement and retirement ages to detect changes and inequalities complying with active ageing and public health. Memoria y patrimonio vivo es un proyecto de innovación educativa centrado en el diálogo intergeneracional de las experiencias de vida y de vida educativa entre estudiantes séniors (Universitat dels Majors) y juniors (estudiantes de Magisterio Infantil), que se ha desarrollado en la Universitat de València (Campus d’Ontinyent) con sesiones quincenales a lo largo de seis meses de trabajo.
