Dynamic doping in bright and stable light emitting electrochemical cells.
2013
By using fast current density and luminance versus voltage (JL-V) analysis the device operation of sandwiched light emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) during their normal voltage driving operation mode is studied. In LECs the application of a voltage results in the movement of ions changing the state of the device, as a result the JL-V scans need to be performed fast and meet certain conditions to be meaningful. Space-charge limited current behavior is observed once the injection barriers are overcome. The increase of the current density after this point imply that the effective thickness of the devices is reduced which indicates the formation of more conductive regions adjacent to the e…
Spatiotemporal colorimetry to reveal electrochemical kinetics of poly(o-toluidine) films along ITO surface
2018
Abstract Sheet resistance of transparent conducting electrodes can affect dramatically the electrochromic response of surface confined active species in any electrochromic device. The generated gradient of effective potential on the electrode surface has a direct impact on the electrochemical kinetics of these species. In this work, the electrochromic poly (o-toluidine) (POT) film, a derivative polyaniline, was deposited along a narrow, long transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) supporting electrode with a sheet resistivity of 30 Ω cm−1. This configuration was used as a model to simulate a surface electrical conduction from the external metallic contact to the opposite extreme of ITO with an i…
Amorphous semiconductor—electrolyte junction. Impedance study on the a-Nb2 O5—electrolyte junction
1990
Abstract A systematic study of the impedance behaviour of the anodic niobium oxide film/aqueous electrolyte interface was carried out using the lock-in technique at different signal frequencies. The dependence of both components of the impedance on the electrode potential and on frequency is analysed by taking into account the amorphous nature of the films. The lack of long-range order in these oxide layers modifies the physical picture in respect to the case of single crystal semiconductors. A new equivalent circuit has been assumed, based on recent theory of an amorphous semiconductor Schottky barrier. Such a new approach allows the characterization of the interface and the determination …
Controlling the dynamic behavior of light emitting electrochemical cells
2013
Abstract Light emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) present an attractive route towards cost efficient lighting applications. By utilizing ionic phosphorescent transition metal complexes, efficient electroluminescence can be realized from a single layer device using air stable electrodes. These devices achieve efficient charge carrier injection due to ion accumulation at the interface upon driving, resulting in a dynamic response upon device operation. Here we investigate the device operation by using fast current and luminance versus voltage sweeps during normal fixed bias operating. A universal set of JL–V curves can be identified in which different regimes are observable. The speed and …
Superior Electrocatalytic Activity of MoS2-Graphene as Superlattice
2020
[EN] Evidence by selected area diffraction patterns shows the successful preparation of large area (cm x cm) MoS2/graphene heterojunctions in coincidence of the MoS2 and graphene hexagons (superlattice). The electrodes of MoS2/graphene in superlattice configuration show improved catalytic activity for H-2 and O-2 evolution with smaller overpotential of +0.34 V for the overall water splitting when compared with analogous MoS2/graphene heterojunction with random stacking.
Efficient Polymer Light‐Emitting Diode Using Air‐Stable Metal Oxides as Electrodes
2009
Poly(phenylenevinylene)‐based organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) are fabricated using air‐stable metal oxides as electrodes, producing very efficient and bright electroluminescent devices. Efficiencies of 8 cd A−1 and luminances above 20000 cd m−2 are obtained, comparable to the values reported for classic OLED structures using reactive metals as cathodes.
Revisiting the electronic properties of Molecular Semiconductor – Doped Insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions through impedance and chemosensing studies
2015
Abstract The core activity of this work was to give a new interpretation of the electronic behavior of Molecular Semiconductor – Doped Insulator heterojunctions (MSDI), a new organic device combining two molecular materials with very different electronic properties. We focused on understanding the phenomenon occurring at the interface of fluorinated and non-fluorinated phthalocyanines that appears to be a determining factor for the electronic charge transport in the two-component thin film and ultimately deciding the nature of gas sensing, as illustrated with ozone and ammonia chosen as examples of accepting and donating gases. The impedance measurements showed that the Schottky contact bet…
Electrical excitation of surface plasmons by an individual carbon nanotube transistor.
2013
We demonstrate here the realization of an integrated, electrically driven, source of surface plasmon polaritons. Light-emitting individual single-walled carbon nanotube field effect transistors were fabricated in a plasmonic-ready platform. The devices were operated at ambient conditions to act as an electroluminescence source localized near the contacting gold electrodes. We show that photon emission from the semiconducting channel can couple to propagating surface plasmons developing in the electrical terminals. Our results show that a common functional element can be operated for two different platforms emphasizing thus the high degree of compatibility between state-of-the-art nano-optoe…
Hot carrier effects in n-MOSFETs with SiO2/HfO2/HfSiO gate stack and TaN metal gate
2009
Charge trapping and trap generation in field-effect transistors with SiO2/HfO2/HfSiO gate stack and TaN metal gate electrode are investigated under uniform and non-uniform charge injection along the channel. Compared to constant voltage stress (CVS), hot carrier stress (HCS) exhibits more severe degradation in transconductance and subthreshold swing. By applying a detrapping bias, it is demonstrated that charge trapping induced degradation is reversible during CVS, while the damage is permanent for hot carrier injection case. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Extended gate electrode arrays for extracellular signal recordings
2000
Abstract We have fabricated arrays of planar gold electrodes arranged in a matrix of 8×8 with active areas ranging from 6 to 30 μm in diameter. An electronic amplification circuitry based on commercial junction field-effect transistors was used where the gold sensor fields act as extended gate electrodes (EGE) of the transistors, which leads to a new approach for long-term extracellular recording systems in vitro. The high input resistance of the amplification circuitry allows the use of small planar bare gold electrodes without further modification which therefore extends the frequency range of the measuring set-up down to the DC-level. The performance of our recording system has been test…
