Neutron halos in the excited states of 12B
2018
The differential cross sections of the 11B(d,p) 12B reaction leading to formation of the 1+ ground state and the 0.95-MeV 2+, 1.67-MeV 2−, 2.62-MeV 1−, 2.72-MeV 0+, and 3.39-MeV 3− excited states of 12B are measured at Ed = 21.5 MeV. The analysis of the data is carried out within the coupled-reaction-channels method for the direct neutron transfer and the Hauser-Feshbach formalism of the statistical compound-nucleus model. The spectroscopic factors, asymptotic normalization coefficients, and rms radii of the last neutron in all states studied are deduced. The existence of the neutron halos in the 1.67-MeV 2− and 2.62-MeV 1− states is found, consistent with the earlier published data. New in…
High-contrast sub-Doppler absorption spikes in a hot atomic vapor cell exposed to a dual-frequency laser field
2017
International audience; The saturated absorption technique is an elegant method widely used in atomic and molecular physics for high-resolution spectroscopy, laser frequency standards and metrology purposes. We have recently discovered that a saturated absorption scheme with a dual-frequency laser can lead to a significant sign reversal of the usual Doppler-free dip, yielding a deep enhanced-absorption spike. In this paper, we report detailed experimental investigations of this phenomenon, together with a full in-depth theoretical description. It is shown that several physical effects can support or oppose the formation of the high-contrast central spike in the absorption profile. The physi…
Monitoring water and carbon fluxes at fine spatial scales using HyspIRI-like measurements
2012
Remotely sensed observations in the visible to the shortwave infrared (VSWIR) and thermal infrared (TIR) regions of the electromagnetic spectrum can be used synergistically to provide valuable products of land surface properties for reliable assessments of carbon and water fluxes. The high spatial, spectral and temporal resolution VSWIR and TIR observations provided by the proposed Hyperspectral - InfraRed (HyspIRI) mission will enable a new era of global agricultural monitoring, critical for addressing growing issues of food insecurity. To enable predictions at fine spatial resolution (<100m), modeling efforts must rely on a combination of high-frequency temporal and highresolution spa…
Energy transfer in diiodoBodipy-grafted upconversion nanohybrids.
2015
Steady-state and time-resolved emission studies on nanohybrids consisting of NaYF4:Yb,Er and a diiodo-substituted Bodipy (UCNP-IBDP) show that the Yb(3+) metastable state, formed after absorption of a near-infrared (NIR) photon, can decay via two competitive energy transfer processes: sensitization of IBDP after absorption of a second NIR photon and population of Er(3+) excited states.

Enhancing Optomechanical Coupling via the Josephson Effect
2013
Cavity optomechanics is showing promise for studying quantum mechanics in large systems. However, smallness of the radiation-pressure coupling is a serious hindrance. Here we show how the charge tuning of the Josephson inductance in a single-Cooper-pair transistor (SCPT) can be exploited to arrange a strong radiation pressure -type coupling $g_0$ between mechanical and microwave resonators. In a certain limit of parameters, such a coupling can also be seen as a qubit-mediated coupling of two resonators. We show that this scheme allows reaching extremely high $g_0$. Contrary to the recent proposals for exploiting the non-linearity of a large radiation pressure coupling, the main non-linearit…
Multipactor radiation analysis within a waveguide region based on a frequency-domain representation of the dynamics of charged particles
2009
[EN] A technique for the accurate computation of the electromagnetic fields radiated by a charged particle moving within a parallel-plate waveguide is presented. Based on a transformation of the time-varying current density of the particle into a time-harmonic current density, this technique allows the evaluation of the radiated electromagnetic fields both in the frequency and time domains, as well as in the near- and far-field regions. For this purpose, several accelerated versions of the parallel-plate Green's function in the frequency domain have been considered. The theory has been successfully applied to the multipactor discharge occurring within a two metal-plates region. The proposed…
Extremely low-frequency magnetic fields and survival from childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia: an international follow-up study
2012
A previous US study reported poorer survival in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) exposed to extremely low-frequency magnetic fields (ELF–MF) above 0.3 μT, but based on small numbers. Data from 3073 cases of childhood ALL were pooled from prospective studies conducted in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, UK and US to determine death or relapse up to 10 years from diagnosis. Adjusting for known prognostic factors, we calculated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for overall survival and event-free survival for ELF–MF exposure categories and by 0.1 μT increases. The HRs by 0.1 μT increases were 1.00 (CI, 0.93–1.07) for event-free survival analysis and 1.04 (CI…
