Self-assembly of M4L4tetrahedral cages incorporating pendant PS and PSe functionalised ligands

2019

Herein, the synthesis of metal–organic tetrahedral cages featuring flexible thio- and selenophosphate-based ligands is described. The cages were prepared by sub-component self-assembly of AP(OC6H4NH2-4)3 (A = S, Se) or SP(SC6H4NH2-4)3, 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, and either Fe[BF4]2 or Co[BF4]2. Preliminary host–guest studies into the ability of the pendant PS and PSe groups to interact with suitable substrates will be discussed.

Facile synthesis of annulated heterocyclic benzo[kl]acridine derivatives via one-pot N–H/C–H coupling

2016

An efficient N–H/C–H one-pot coupling method for the preparation of benzo[kl]acridines has been developed based on palladium-catalyzed domino synthesis. Using commercially available starting materials such as dihalonaphthalenes and diphenylamines, and combining amination with catalysts for C–H activation, up to 95% overall yield can be achieved.

Understanding the Participation of Fluorinated Azomethine Ylides in Carbenoid-Type [3 + 2] Cycloaddition Reactions with Ynal Systems: A Molecular Ele…

2021

The carbenoid-type (cb-type) 32CA reaction of 1,1-difluoroated azomethine ylide (DFAY) with phenylpropynal has been studied using the molecular electron density theory (MEDT). Electron localization function (ELF) characterizes DFAY as a carbenoid species participating in cb-type 32CA reactions. The supernucleophilic character of DFAY and the strong electrophilic character of the ynal cause this polar 32CA reaction to have an unappreciable barrier; the reaction, which is highly exothermic, presents total chemo- and regioselectivity. ELF topological analysis of the bonding changes along the reaction establishes its non-concerted two-stage one-step mechanism, in which the nucleophilic attack o…

Photocatalytic Giese Addition of 1,4-Dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones to Electron-Poor Alkenes Using Visible Light.

2020

The visible-light photoredox-catalyzed coupling of 1,4-dihydroquinoxalin-2-ones and Michael acceptors was achieved using Ru(bpy)3Cl2 as the photocatalyst and (PhO)2PO2H as an additive. The optimized reaction conditions provide a good yield for the radical conjugate addition products (44 examples) with a wide range of structurally different Michael acceptors. A gram scale reaction using sunlight irradiation is also described. Furthermore, several transformations were carried out with the Giese addition products.

Late-Stage Modification of Electronic Properties of Antiaromatic and Diradicaloid Indeno[1,2-b]fluorene Analogues via Sulfur Oxidation

2020

The ability to alter optoelectronic and magnetic properties of molecules at a late stage in their preparation is in general a nontrivial feat. Here, we report the late-stage oxidation of benzothiop...

Radical cation and dication of a 4H-dithieno[2,3-b:3′,2′-e][1,4]-thiazine

2017

A p-tert-butylphenyl substituted 4H-dithieno[2,3-b:3′,2′-e][1,4]thiazine was synthesized by twofold Buchwald–Hartwig coupling. The electronic properties (UV/Vis, cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemistry) and the DFT- and TD DFT-calculated electronic structure reveal that the parent system and the radical cation and dication oxidation products are highly polarizable π-systems with strong charge transfer contributions. The radical cation and the dication were prepared by oxidation with antimony(V) pentachloride, giving stable deeply colored salts. EPR spectroscopy of the radical cation furnishes hyperfine coupling constants with the nitrogen nucleus and the α-thienyl protons. The dicati…

Crystallographic snapshots of host–guest interactions in drugs@metal–organic frameworks: towards mimicking molecular recognition processes

2018

We report a novel metal–organic framework (MOF) featuring functional pores decorated with hydroxyl groups derived from the natural amino acid L-serine, which is able to establish specific interactions of different natures, strengths and directionalities with organic molecules of technological interest, i.e. ascorbic acid, pyridoxine, bupropion and 17-β-estradiol, based on their different sizes and chemical natures. The ability of 1 to distinctly organize guest molecules within its channels, through the concomitant effect of different directing supramolecular host–guest interactions, enables gaining unique insights, by means of single-crystal X-ray crystallography, into the host–guest intera…

Role of the Open-Shell Character on the Pressure-Induced Conductivity of an Organic Donor-Acceptor Radical Dyad

2018

Single‐component conductors based on neutral organic radicals have received a lot of attention due to the possibility that the unpaired electron can serve as a charge carrier without the need of a previous doping process. Although most of these systems are based on delocalized planar radicals, we present here a nonplanar and spin localized radical based on a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) moiety, linked to a perchlorotriphenylmethyl (PTM) radical by a conjugated bridge, which exhibits a semiconducting behavior upon application of high pressure. The synthesis, electronic properties, and crystal structure of this neutral radical TTF‐Ph‐PTM derivative (1) are reported and implications of its crystal…

Theoretical Investigation of the Low-Energy States of CpMoCl(PMe 3 ) 2 and Their Role in the Spin-Forbidden Addition of N 2 and CO

2003

International audience; A recent computational investigation of Jahn−Teller effects in unsaturated 16-electron d4d6 [CpMLn] complexes (Abu-Hasanayn, F.; Cheong, P.; Oliff, M. Angew. Chem.2002, 41, 2120) highlighted the typical presence of two spin-triplet and two singlet states of competing stability in these complexes and pointed out the necessity to account for more than one electronic state in studies thereof. Consequently, we have reinvestigated the addition of N2 to all the four low-energy states of CpMoCl(PH3)2, a reaction for which previously only one singlet and one triplet state have been considered (Keogh, D. W.; Poli, R. J. Am. Chem. Soc.1997, 119, 2516). The present study was pe…

Probing the guest-binding preference of three structurally similar and conformationally adaptive macrocycles.

2019

A hybrid macrocycle was synthesized by combining the repeat units in oxatub[4]arene and zorb[4]arene, and its recognition behavior and conformational analysis were studied. Three structurally similar and conformationally adaptive macrocycles show different guest-binding selectivities and preferences even in a complex mixture containing three macrocycles and three guests.
