An approximate theoretical impedance analysis of the anodic dissolution of nickel across nickel(II) stabilised by means of competitive anions

Abstract A theoretical impedance function for the anodic dissolution of nickel is developed by considering the hypothesis that there are two competitive anions which participate in the stabilization of the electrogenerated Ni(II) species. The experimental effect of chloride ion concentration on nickel electrodissolution process is analyzed by means of a mechanism that considers this competency. It is observed that an increased Cl − concentration causes an increase in Ni(I) surface concentration and a decrease in the kinetic constant rates of the considered mechanism. Characterization of oriented protein-ceramic and protein-polymer-composites for cartilage tissue engineering using synchrotron μ-CT

Abstract In this paper we report on the synthesis of three different gelatine based scaffold materials for the reconstruction of articular cartilage defects. The first scaffold design is based on an unmodified, oriented gelatine network, while the second design further comprises an attached inorganic hydroxyapatite layer and the third design includes poly(l-lactide) microspheres as a model material for future drug-release applications. All three scaffold designs were characterized and imaged using synchrotron μ-CT, obtaining a complete volumetric reconstruction of a previously defined sample region. Benzo-zirconacyclohexadiene-phospha or silacyclobutene fused ring systems are easily prepared via a benzynezirconocene intermediate by means of thermolysis of Cp 2 ZrPh 2 in the presence of bis(alkynyl)phosphanes or silanes. These polyunsaturated systems are the source of a variety of new mono- or tricyclic heterocycles incorporating either one or two heteroatoms.
Lateral versus perpendicular segregation in mixed polymer brushes.

Grafting of incompatible polymers on a substrate prevents macrophase separation and the chains self-assemble laterally. Mixed brushes are exposed to different solvents and the morphology is observed via atomic force and x-ray photoemission microscopy. In a nonselective solvent the different species segregate into parallel cylinders ("ripple structure"). Upon exposure to a selective solvent, we encounter a transition to a "dimple" structure, in which the unfavored component forms clusters. Simultaneously, we observe an enhanced perpendicular segregation. The experimental observations are compared to self-consistent field calculations, where qualitative agreement is found.

Conjugated oligomers represent a prominent class of compounds from a viewpoint of their theory, synthesis, and applications in materials science. Push-pull substitution with an electron donor D at one end of the conjugation and an electron acceptor A at the other end results in them having outstanding optical and electronical properties. The compound [Cu2(bpm)2(N3)4]n (bpm = bis(pyrazol-1−yl)methane) shows three unique coordination modes (μ1,1-, μ1,1,1-, μ1,1,3-N3) and ferromagnetic interaction between the copper(II) ions. The structure of the compound exhibits a one-dimensional railroad polymer made up of repeating defective dicubane-type units linked by μ1,1,3-N3 bridges.
Strontium Insertion in Methylammonium Lead Iodide: Long Charge Carrier Lifetime and High Fill-Factor Solar Cells.

The addition of Sr2+ in CH3 NH3 PbI3 perovskite films enhances the charge carrier collection efficiency of solar cells leading to very high fill factors, up to 85%. The charge carrier lifetime of Sr2+ -containing perovskites is in excess of 40 μs, longer than those reported for perovskite single crystals.
Molecular self-assembly on an insulating surface: interplay between substrate templating and intermolecular interactions

We report on molecular self-assembly of biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (BPDCA) on CaCO3(10 (1) over bar4) under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Two-dimensional, ordered islands are obtained upon deposition at room temperature, coexisting with a streaky structure that is ascribed to individual, mobile molecules forming a two-dimensional gas-like phase. High-resolution non-contact atomic force microscopy (NC-AFM) images of the molecular islands reveal an ordered inner structure that is dominated by rows of molecules aligned side by side running along the [(42) over bar 61] crystallographic direction. Chain linear dimensions in the surface-enriched layer of polymer mixtures

We calculate the mean-square end-to-end distances and mean-square gyration radii using the bond fluctuation model for a binary polymer blend in the presence of a wall by Monte Carlo simulation. In the bulk, the size of the minority, low-concentration polymer species is compressed compared to the majority one. In the vicinity of the wall, where the minority polymer concentration is enriched due to attraction from the wall, the dimensions of the two types of polymers are approximately equal and are essentially the same as in an athermal polymer melt. Thus, the geometric constraint is more important to the structure of the polymers than the polymer-polymer and polymer-wall interactions.
