Multi-level optimization of a fiber transmission system via nonlinearity management

2006

Nonlinearity management is explored as a complete tool to obtain maximum transmission reach in a WDM fiber transmission system, making it possible to optimize multiple system parameters, including optimal dispersion pre-compensation, with fast simulations based on the continuous-wave approximation. © 2006 Optical Society of America.

Special issue on architectures of smart cameras for real-time applications

2016

Smart cameras are embedded vision systems whose primary function is to produce a semantic understanding of the scene and generate a response in the form of application-specific signals and data. They are autonomous vision systems themselves and can be the building blocks of a more complex smart camera network. They are built around high-performance on-chip and on-board computing and communication infrastructure, combining image sensing, real-time image and video processing, and communications into a single embedded device. They can also be interconnected in networks and cooperate to provide access to many views, enabling more challenging applications in fields like visual control, surveilla…

Reducing Power Consumption of Wireless Networks Through Collaborative DMC Mobile Clusters

2017

Reducing the energy consumption of the wireless network is significantly important to the economic and ecological sustainability of the ICT industry, as high energy consumption may limit the performance of wireless networks and is one of the main network costs. To solve energy consumption problem, especially on the terminal side, a scheme known as distributed mobile cloud (DMC) is considered to be a potential solution. Multiple mobile terminals (MTs) can cooperative to take advantage of good quality links among the MTs to save energy when receiving from the Base Station (BS). In this paper, we aim to find the optimal transmit power to further reduce the energy consumption of DMC. From simul…

A stacked interleaved DC-DC buck converter for proton exchange membrane electrolyzer applications: Design and experimental validation

2019

Abstract Since the two last decades, hydrogen production has been attracting the attention of the scientific community thanks to its inherent very low pollution when energy coming from renewable energy sources (RESs) are used. However, it implies the use of DC/DC converters to interface source and load. These conversion systems must meet several requirements from current ripple point of view, energy efficiency, and performance to preserve the sustainability of hydrogen production. This article proposes the design and realization of a stacked interleaved buck converter to supply a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer. The converter is designed to ensure a low output current ripple and a sui…

A random-walk benchmark for single-electron circuits

2021

Mesoscopic integrated circuits aim for precise control over elementary quantum systems. However, as fidelities improve, the increasingly rare errors and component crosstalk pose a challenge for validating error models and quantifying accuracy of circuit performance. Here we propose and implement a circuit-level benchmark that models fidelity as a random walk of an error syndrome, detected by an accumulating probe. Additionally, contributions of correlated noise, induced environmentally or by memory, are revealed as limits of achievable fidelity by statistical consistency analysis of the full distribution of error counts. Applying this methodology to a high-fidelity implementation of on-dema…

MATLAB Co-Simulation Tools for Power Supply Systems Design

2011

ion level. Circuit simulation software as Powersim PSIM and Orcad Pspice are the most common choice for circuit modelling. In (Basso, 2008), the design and simulation of switchmode power supplies is deeply analyzed and simulation tips in several environments are proposed. ASIC simulation and verification tools as Xilinx ISE/Modelsim or Aldec ActiveHDL are available to implement the digital controller by the VHDL or VERILOG source code. Since the interaction between subsystems is the most common source of faults, testing separately analog and digital subsystems by the means of different verification tools is a severe mistake. Matlab is a powerful simulation environment for mixed-mode systems…

Low invasive multisensor acquisition system for real-time monitoring of cardiovascular and respiratory parameters

2020

The recent advances in multiparametric monitoring of biosignals and management of big data prompt for the development of devices and techniques for the extraction of indicators with physiological relevance. In this context, we have designed and realized a portable electronic system, equipped with simple biomedical sensors, able to synchronously record multiple electrocardiographic (ECG), photoplethysmographic (PPG) and breathing signals, for carrying out a non-invasive monitoring of several cardiovascular parameters. In this work, we show the results of preliminary measurements performed following a specific physiological protocol (i.e., deep breathing with 10 s per cycle). The system allow…

An Improved Skew Angle Detection and Correction Technique for Historical Scanned Documents Using Morphological Skeleton and Progressive Probabilistic…

2017

International audience; Skew detection is a crucial step for document analysis systems. Indeed, it represents one of the basic challenges, especially in case of historical documents analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel robust skew angle detection and correction technique. Morphological Skeleton is introduced to significantly reduce the amount of data to treat by removing the redundant pixels and keeping only the central curves of the image components. The proposed method then uses Progressive Probabilistic Hough Transform (PPHT) to identify image lines. A special procedure is finally applied in order to estimate the global skew angle of the document image from these detected lines. E…

An embedded datalogger with a fast acquisition rate for in-vehicle testing and monitoring

2011

A very compact and high performance datalogger for automotive in-vehicle testing is here described. The small logger dimensions and the availability of a CAN interface allows to easily implement multiple and distributed acquisition schemes, very challenging with traditional instrumentation. High acquisition rate, up to 100 Ksps/ch, and low cost was obtained through a very accurate hardware and software design.
