Optical sectioning microscopy through single-shot Lightfield protocol

Optical sectioning microscopy is usually performed by means of a scanning, multi-shot procedure in combination with non-uniform illumination. In this paper, we change the paradigm and report a method that is based in the light field concept, and that provides optical sectioning for 3D microscopy images after a single-shot capture. To do this we fi rst capture multiple orthographic perspectives of the sample by means of Fourier-domain integral microscopy (FiMic). Effectiveness of nonlinear optical loop mirrors in chirped fiber gratings compensated dispersion-managed transmission systems

International audience; We show that nonlinear optical loop mirrors can dramatically suppress the side peaks induced by the group delay ripples in chirped fiber gratings compensated dispersion-managed systems and significantly improve the system performance.

Elastic Wave Near-Cloaking

Cloaking elastic waves has, in contrast to the cloaking of electromagnetic waves, remained a fundamental challenge: the latter successfully uses the invariance of Maxwell's equations, from which the field of transformational optics has emerged, whereas the elastic Navier equations are not invariant under coordinate transformations. Abstract Introduction and purpose The Valencia applicators which are accessories of the microSelectron-HDR afterloader (Nucletron, Veenendaal, The Netherlands) are designed to treat skin lesions. These cup-shaped applicators are an alternative to superficial/orthovoltage x-ray treatment units. They limit the irradiation to the required area using tungsten-alloy shielding, and are equipped with a tungsten-alloy flattering filter allowing the treatment of skin tumors, the oral cavity, vaginal cuff, etc. The tungsten-alloy thickness to shield radiation is not the same in all parts of the applicators. Quantum computing with molecular spin systems

Molecular spintronics promises to combine the flexibility offered by synthetic chemistry with the advantages of an electronics which is based on the electron spin rather than its charge degree of freedom. Here, we review recent work on the description of transport across molecular spin systems and on a proposal for an all-electrical scheme for the implementation of a fundamental two-qubit gate in a certain class of molecular systems.

Why Bring Organic and Molecular Electronics to Spintronics

Organic spintronics field is an emerging field at the frontier between organic chemistry and spintronics. Exploiting the peculiarity of these two fields, it combines the flexibility, versatility and low production cost of organic materials with the nonvolatility, spin degree of freedom and beyond CMOS capabilities offered by spintronics. Before starting the discussion on the organic spintronics field, in this chapter will be provided a brief introduction on organic and molecular electronics and the specificities of molecules. This will help to understand the advantages that molecular systems can bring to spintronics.

Metasurfaces for colour printing

We present a theoretical analysis and experimental evidences of metasurfaces based on particle resonators that achieve bright-field colour prints. We created pixels that support individual colours, miniaturized and juxtaposed at the optical diffraction limit. Different strategies are followed to offer the flexibility of using both transmitting and epi (reflective) white light sources. We discuss their potential applications in large-volume colour printing via nanoimprint lithography.

Enhancing single-parameter quantum charge pumping in carbon-based devices

2011

We present a theoretical study of quantum charge pumping with a single ac gate applied to graphene nanoribbons and carbon nanotubes operating with low resistance contacts. By combining Floquet theory with Green's function formalism, we show that the pumped current can be tuned and enhanced by up to two orders of magnitude by an appropriate choice of device length, gate voltage intensity and driving frequency and amplitude. These results offer a promising alternative for enhancing the pumped currents in these carbon-based devices.
