Nature of cobalt active species in hydrodesulfurization catalysis: combined support and preparation method effects

Abstract Co/γ-Al2O3, Co/SiO2, Co/MCM-41, Co/ASA and Co/S2 (amorphous aluminosilicate with Al/Si = 0.13 and with Al/Si ≈ 2, respectively) were prepared by the method of wet impregnation and by the method of precipitation in the presence of sodium carbonate. The samples were characterised by XPS, XRD and TPR. The catalytic activity was tested in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene using a continuous flow reactor. Among the wet impregnated catalysts those supported on the amorphous and ordered mesoporous silica exhibited higher HDS activity as compared to the alumina containing supports. Combined effect of noble metals (Pd, Au) and support properties on HDS activity of Co/SiO2 catalysts

Abstract Cobalt-based catalysts supported on different types of SiO 2 are studied in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene. Amorphous silica and siliceous MCM-41 and HMS, characterized by different texture and surface acidity are used as carriers. The effects due to the modification of the support by impregnation with palladium precursor and to the co-impregnation of cobalt and gold are considered. The catalysts are characterized by N 2 physisorption (BET), XRD, TPR and XPS techniques. Deep oxidation of propane using palladium–titania catalysts modified by niobium

Abstract Pd/TiO 2 catalysts modified by niobium have been prepared and tested for the complete oxidation of propane. The catalysts have been characterised by BET, XRD, laser Raman spectroscopy, XPS, DRS and TPR. The incorporation of niobium into Pd/TiO 2 catalysts resulted in a marked increase in the catalytic activity compared to the Nb-free Pd/TiO 2 catalysts, and the activity increased as the niobium and/or palladium loading increased. The addition of Nb significantly modified the nature of the palladium and niobium species. There was a marked increase in the oxygen mobility after niobium addition. Study of the response of phenol compounds exposed to thermal neutrons beams for Electron Paramagnetic Resonance dosimetry

Abstract This paper reports the results regarding a new organic compound (IRGANOX ® 1076 phenols) with and without low content (5% by weight) of gadolinium oxide (Gd 2 O 3 ) for Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) dosimetry of neutron beams. The dependence of EPR signal as function of neutron dose was investigated in the fluence range studied between 10 11  cm −2 to 10 14  cm −2 . We evaluated also the effect of gadolinium on 60 Co gamma photon sensitivity of this organic compound. Our analysis showed that a low concentration of gadolinium oxide (of the order of 5% of the total mass of the dosimeter) can enhance the thermal neutron sensitivity more than 10 times with a small reduction of …

As part of the studies on Boron Neutron Capture Therapy at the University of Mainz, Germany, a clinical trial has been started, in which our patients suffering from liver metastases of colorectal carcinoma, have been enrolled. Specimens of blood and healthy tissue samples taken from the patients were measured at the PGAA facilities at the HFR in Petten, The Netherlands, and at the FRM II in Munich, Germany. From the measured boron concentrations, pharmacokinetic curves and blood-to-tissue concentration ratios were produced.

The synthesis of branched polyethylenes by ethylene polymerization with new tandem catalyst systems consisting of methylaluminoxane-preactivated linked cyclopentadienyl-amido titanium catalysts [Ti(η5:η1-C5Me4SiMe2NR)Cl2 (R = Me or tBu)] supported on pyridylethylsilane-modified silica (PySTiNMe and PySTiNtBu) and homogeneous dibromo nickel catalyst having a pyridyl-2,6-diisopropylphenylimine ligand (PyminNiBr2) in the presence of modified methylaluminoxane was investigated. In this work we followed the formation of palladium nanoparticles, starting from palladium (II) acetate precursor, inside a poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene) polymer in presence of different reducing agents. The formation and growth of palladium nanoparticles in presence of H-2 was followed as a function of temperature by simultaneous XANES-SAXS techniques, coupled with DRIFT spectroscopy in operando conditions. Abstract Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry has been applied for the estimation of major constituents in molybdenite concentrate solutions produced by hydrometallurgical alkaline digestion. Copper, iron, molybdenum and silicon were considered as major constituents to be determined. Multiple linear regression was utilized for the control of matrix effects. Using simple acid-based standards, all the elements investigated could be determined with satisfactory results using an appropriate method of calculation.

Birefringent porous silicon membranes for optical sensing

In this work anisotropic porous silicon is investigated as a material for optical sensing. Birefringence and sensitivity of the anisotropic porous silicon membranes are thoroughly studied in the framework of Bruggeman model which is extended to incorporate the influence of environment effects, such as silicon oxidation. The membranes were also characterized optically demonstrating sensitivity as high as 1245 nm/RIU at 1500 nm. This experimental value only agrees with the theory when it takes into consideration the effect of silicon oxidation. Furthermore we demonstrate that oxidized porous silicon membranes have optical parameters with long term stability. Finally, we developed a new model …
