An Elementary Proof of a Theorem of Graham on Finite Semigroups

2020

The purpose of this note is to give a very elementary proof of a theorem of Graham that provides a structural description of finite 0-simple semigroups and its idempotent-generated subsemigroups.

On distinguished polynomials and their projections

2012

We study projections and injections between projective tensor products spaces or spaces of polynomials and we show that the example of a polynomial constructed in (4), that is neither p-dominated nor compact, can be identified with the projection map of the symmetric tensor product onto the space. Also we give a characterization of the weak and quasi approximation properties on symmetric tensor products.

Some algebras of symmetric analytic functions and their spectra

2011

AbstractIn the spectrum of the algebra of symmetric analytic functions of bounded type on ℓp, 1 ≤ p < +∞, and along the same lines as the general non-symmetric case, we define and study a convolution operation and give a formula for the ‘radius’ function. It is also proved that the algebra of analytic functions of bounded type on ℓ1 is isometrically isomorphic to an algebra of symmetric analytic functions on a polydisc of ℓ1. We also consider the existence of algebraic projections between algebras of symmetric polynomials and the corresponding subspace of subsymmetric polynomials.

Use of Language in Elementary Geometry by Students and Textbooks

1996

This chapter presents some results of a study on the definitions that appear in the Spanish textbooks for Primary School (Jaime, Chapa, and Gutierrez, 1992). Its aim is to point out the errors in the statements of definitions and inconsistent or inappropriate uses of definitions made in individual textbooks, or in series of textbooks. This study concerned geometry and, more specifically, triangles and quadrilaterals. Most of the problems that arose were strongly related to the understanding and use of language.

ElectromagneticN→N*(1535)transition in the relativistic constituent-quark model

1990

We study a light-cone model of the nucleon and the ${S}_{11}(1535)$ resonance which provides a relativistic generalization of the constituent-quark model in the nonperturbative low-${Q}^{2}$ regime. The two parameters of the model, namely, the size parameter $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ and the constituent-quark mass ${m}_{q}\ensuremath{\approx}300$ MeV, are fixed by the axial form factor. We find good agreement for the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon up to ${Q}^{2}\ensuremath{\approx}1\ensuremath{-}2$ Ge${\mathrm{V}}^{2}$. All static properties of the nucleon, except for the neutron charge radius, are reproduced within 10%. In addition, we show that the electromagnetic current of the …

Hadron polarizability data analysis: GoAT

2015

The A2 Collaboration at the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Mainz, Germany, is working towards determining the polarizabilities of hadrons from nonperturbative quantum chromodynamics through Compton scattering experiments at low energies. The asymmetry observables are directly related to the scalar and spin polarizabilities of the hadrons. Online analysis software, which will give real-time feedback on asymmetries, efficiencies, energies, and angle distributions, has been developed. The new software is a big improvement over the existing online code and will greatly develop the quality of the acquired data.

Determination of resonance parameters in QCD by functional analysis methods

1988

A mathematically rigorous method based on functional analysis is used to determine resonance parameters of an amplitude from its given asymptotic expression in the space-like region. This method is checked on a model amplitude where both the asymptotic expression and the exact function are known. This method is then applied to the determination of the mass and the width of the ρ-meson from the corresponding space-like asymptotic QCD expression.

An experimental study of γγ → hadrons at LEP

1993

An analysis of γγ interactions has been performed using untagged hadronic data obtained by the ALEPH detector at LEP. The data show at low transverse momentum (pt) are well reproduced by a model based on the vector meson dominance mechinism (VDM). At high pt thrust the presence of hard scattering processes is demonstrated. This component is well described in shape and normalization by a QCD calculation.
