‘World-class’ fantasies : A neocolonial analysis of international branch campuses

In this article, we build on postcolonial studies and discourse analytical research exploring how the ‘world-class’ discourse as an ideology and a fantasy structures neocolonial relations in international branch campuses. We empirically examine how international branch campuses reproduce the fantasy of being so-called world-class operators and how the onsite faculty members identify with or resist this world-class fantasy through mimicry. Our research material originates from fieldwork conducted in business-school international branch campuses operating in the United Arab Emirates. Order Orthoptera: additions to the Orthoptera fauna of the UAE

Orthoptera of UAE were recently summarized by Massa et al (2010). We report here additional records of species collected by Anthonius van Harten with different methods in 2004-2007 and by F.M. Buzzetti in March 2010 during a collecting expedition to UAE, within the framework of the Arthropod of the UAE project.

Les petits Emirats du Golfe Persique ont choisi le sport pour obtenir une visibilité internationale et modifier leur image. Le sport offrait la possibilité d’afficher une modernité souvent associée à l’adoption de valeurs venues de l’Occident. Sans traditions sportives et très peu peuplés, ces Etats ont néanmoins réussi leur entrée sur la scène sportive internationale en mobilisant beaucoup d’argent.
