The Action Principle in Classical Electrodynamics

2001

The main purpose of this chapter is to consider the formulation of a relativistic point particle in classical electrodynamics from the viewpoint of Lagrangian mechanics. Here, the utility of Schwinger’s action principle is illustrated by employing three different kinds of action to derive the equations of motion and the associated surface terms.

Convergent transformations into a normal form in analytic Hamiltonian systems with two degrees of freedom on the zero energy surface near degenerate …

2004

We study an analytic Hamiltonian system with two degrees of freedom, having the origin as an elliptic singularity. We assume that the full Birkhoff normal form exists and is divisible by its quadratic part, being indefinite. We show that under the Bruno condition and under the restriction to the zero energy surface, a real analytic transformation into a normal form exists. Such a normal form coincides with the restriction of the Birkhoff normal form to the zero energy surface up to an order as large as we want.

Cylindrical surface waveguide modes using a surface impedance dyadic method

1987

The fields and characteristic parameters of nonradiating modes of a dielectric-coated wire with an intervening airgap are derived using a surface impedance dyadic method. This method shows several advantages and provides a straightforward method for working out the characteristic equation, cutoff conditions, far-from-cutoff conditions and field coefficients. Important results about the hybrid nature of these modes are shown, and some of them are common to any cylindrical surface waveguide.

A Certain Mathematical Model of the Glass Fibre Material Production

1997

There is considered the full mathematical model of chemical reactions on the surface of glass fibre material that was imbedded in the flow of acid solution and was pulled longitudionally. Self-similar forms of this model are obtained and their approximations by monotone schemes of differences are proposed. Some special cases which make possible to get the analytic solutions are underlined. The self-similar forms of the differential equations of the substances transport allow to calculate the emission of the alkaline oxide from the glass fibre material under the influence of the acid solution flow. Some conclusions with practical significance for the technological process is made up accordin…

Hollow system with fin. Transient Green function method combination for two hollow cylinders

2017

In this paper we develop mathematical model for three dimensional heat equation for the system with hollow wall and fin and construct its analytical solution for two hollow cylindrical sample. The method of solution is based on Green function method for one hollow cylinder. On the conjugation conditions between both hollow cylinders we construct solution for system wall with fin. As result we come to integral equation on the surface between both hollow cylinders. Solution is obtained in the form of second kind Fredholm integral equation. The generalizing of Green function method allows us to use Green function method for regular non-canonical domains.

On dewetting dynamics of solid films of hydrogen isotopes and its influence on tritium [Beta] spectroscopy

2000

The dewetting dynamics of solid films of hydrogen isotopes, quench-condensed on a graphite substrate, was measured at various temperatures below desorption by observing the stray light from the film. A schematic model describing the dewetting process by surface diffusion is presented, which agrees qualitatively with our data. The activation energies of different hydrogen isotopes for surface diffusion were determined. The time constant for dewetting of a quench-condensed T2 film at the working temperature of 1.86 K of the mainz neutrino mass experiment was extrapolated.

The non-equilibrium charge screening effects in diffusion-driven systems with pattern formation.

2011

The effects of non-equilibrium charge screening in mixtures of oppositely charged interacting molecules on surfaces are analyzed in a closed system. The dynamics of charge screening and the strong deviation from the standard Debye-Huckel theory are demonstrated via a new formalism based on computing radial distribution functions suited for analyzing both short-range and long-range spacial ordering effects. At long distances the inhomogeneous molecular distribution is limited by diffusion, whereas at short distances (of the order of several coordination spheres) by a balance of short-range (Lennard-Jones) and long-range (Coulomb) interactions. The non-equilibrium charge screening effects in …

The coupling of the electrostatic potential with the transport and adsorption mechanisms in ion-exchange chromatography systems: Theory and experimen…

2005

The coupling of the constitutive expression for the electrostatic potential as specified through Poisson's equation together with the constitutive equations for the mechanisms of convection, diffusion, electrophoretic migration, and adsorption provides the necessary set of constitutive expressions to be employed in the material balance equations of ion-exchange chromatography systems to construct macroscopic continuum models that could be used to design and simulate the dynamic behavior of systems involving a single charged adsorbate or multiple charged adsorbates. A physically relevant and consistent macroscopic continuum model that can predict, as has been observed experimentally by UV co…

Reply to "comment on 'Monte Carlo simulations for a Lotka-type model with reactant surface diffusion and interactions' ".

2002

As is well known, a wide class of physical problems, including the kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic reactions, is traditionally described in terms of the master equations ~ME!. The definition of ME allows us not only to perform Monte Carlo ~MC! simulations, but also to develop at the same time appropriate analytical methods @mean field~MF!, cluster approximations, etc. #@ 1#. ME is formally defined when all possible states of a system and the transition rates between these states are specified. This is enough to define only the transition rates K(i! j ) for such elementary processes as particle adsorption, desorption, diffusion, reaction, etc., from the initial state i to the final state…

Exploring Innovation Adoption Behavior for Sustainable Development: The Case of Hungarian Food Sector

2020

Innovation plays a key role in the success and sustainable development of businesses. The innovation process derives from the combination of personal skills and company resources that influence food company managers in their choices on innovation (the decision-making process). This study is an attempt to try to understand which psychological constructs affect innovation decision-making in the Hungarian food sector, using the empirical data from a 2017 survey conducted in Hungary among the largest food processing companies. Planned behavior theory (TPB) was applied to the study of factors affecting innovation decision-making. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used for data analysis. The…
