Like ships passing in the night? Nonstandard work schedules and spousal satisfaction in Finland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom
2020
This study examined the associations of work schedules and spousal satisfaction among Finnish (n = 347), Dutch (n = 304) and British (n = 337) parents. In addition to comparing parents with nonstandard schedule with parents in regular day work, the study examined separately the roles played in spousal satisfaction of morning, evening, night and weekend work and other working time-related variables (working hours, changes in and influence over one’s work schedules and spouse’s work schedule). The three-country data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with a multigroup procedure in Mplus. Little evidence for negative associations of work schedules and related factors with spousal…
Resolvent estimates for elliptic quadratic differential operators
2011
Sharp resolvent bounds for non-selfadjoint semiclassical elliptic quadratic differential operators are established, in the interior of the range of the associated quadratic symbol.
Analysis of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention: the case of Burkina Faso
2018
International audience; In this study, we propose to analyze students' entrepreneurial intention, drawing on Lazear's (2004) self-selection model. This model captures the role of "human capital" in employment assignment and emphasizes the importance of the variety of skills in the individual's entrepreneurial orientation. For this purpose, we have a database collected in 2017 from over 1000 students at Ouaga I and Ouaga II universities in Burkina Faso. The results of estimates obtained using the quantile regression method show a positive and significant effect of the diversity of skills on the intention score, mainly at the median level. Even if the effect is not strong, this result support…

Vortex dynamics in rotating counterflow and plane Couette and Poiseuille turbulence in superfluid Helium
2008
An equation previously proposed to describe the evolution of vortex line density in rotating counterflow turbulent tangles in superfluid helium is generalized to incorporate nonvanishing barycentric velocity and velocity gradients. Our generalization is compared with an analogous approach proposed by Lipniacki, and with experimental results by Swanson et al. in rotating counterflow, and it is used to evaluate the vortex density in plane Couette and Poiseuille flows of superfluid helium.
The Equationally-Defined Commutator in Quasivarieties Generated by Two-Element Algebras
2018
The notion of the equationally-defined commutator was introduced and thoroughly investigated in (Czelakowski, 2015). In this work the properties of the equationally-defined commutator in quasivarieties generated by two-element algebras are examined. It is proved: If a quasivariety Q is generated by a finite set of two-element algebras, then the equationally-defined commutator of Q is additive (Theorem 3.1) Moreover it satisfies the associativity law (Theorem 3.6). The second result is strengthened if the quasivariety is generated by a single two-element algebra 2: If Q = SP(2), then the equationally-defined commutator of Q universally validates one of the following laws: [x,y] = x^y or [x,y…
Generalized wave propagation problems and discrete exterior calculus
2018
We introduce a general class of second-order boundary value problems unifying application areas such as acoustics, electromagnetism, elastodynamics, quantum mechanics, and so on, into a single framework. This also enables us to solve wave propagation problems very efficiently with a single software system. The solution method precisely follows the conservation laws in finite-dimensional systems, whereas the constitutive relations are imposed approximately. We employ discrete exterior calculus for the spatial discretization, use natural crystal structures for three-dimensional meshing, and derive a “discrete Hodge” adapted to harmonic wave. The numerical experiments indicate that the cumulat…

Influence of brand image of a sports event on the recommendation of its participants
2020
The aim of this research is to test the psychometric properties and relationships of a model where, from brand congruence of a sport event, trust and commitment to it can be generated, influencing future behavior of participants and resulting in a higher recommendation also called Word of Mouth (hereinafter WOM). A quantitative approach has been carried out by means of a validated questionnaire with Likert-type responses, and data were analyzed with the EQS 6.4 software. The findings indicated that the model is adequate, and also confirm that from congruence, we can explain, at a theoretical level, 45% of trust, and in the same way, from the congruence and trust, we can explain 67% of the c…
Acoustic wave guides as infinite-dimensional dynamical systems
2015
We prove the unique solvability, passivity/conservativity and some regularity results of two mathematical models for acoustic wave propagation in curved, variable diameter tubular structures of finite length. The first of the models is the generalised Webster's model that includes dissipation and curvature of the 1D waveguide. The second model is the scattering passive, boundary controlled wave equation on 3D waveguides. The two models are treated in an unified fashion so that the results on the wave equation reduce to the corresponding results of approximating Webster's model at the limit of vanishing waveguide intersection.
