Experimental research of surfaced nanoparticle thermal transport in a porous medium

Abstract Experimental research on thermally induced nanocolloid transport in a porous environment is presented. Addition of excess surfactant to a colloid with dispersed phase made of surfaced nanoparticles results in a decrease of effective Soret coefficient in a porous environment. It is shown that with sufficient amounts of surfactant added, this effect extends to a reversal of nanoparticle thermophoretic transport direction, and that the effect shows a tendency of saturation. A mechanism of thermal transport that involves slip velocity of surfactant molecules appearing near pore walls is evaluated as a possible cause of the decrease of Soret coefficient. Water-Soluble Aza-BODIPYs: Biocompatible Organic Dyes for High Contrast In Vivo NIR-II Imaging

International audience; A simple NIR-II emitting water-soluble system has been developed and applied in vitro and in vivo. In vitro, the fluorophore quickly accumulated in 2D and 3D cell cultures and rapidly reached the tumor in rodents, showing high NIR-II contrast for up to 1 week. This very efficient probe possesses all the qualities necessary for translation to the clinic as well as for the development of NIR-II emitting materials.

This contribution describes the basic applications of passive optical emission spectroscopy in the visible and far-UV region of electromagnetic radiation to diagnostics of the magnetic confinement fusion plasma. To simplify and condense the broad topic it presents the most common ways of analyzing the spectra of atoms, ions and molecules in fusion plasma and disseminating results of those analysis to the non-spectroscopists. How Proximal Nucleobases Regulate the Catalytic Activity of G-Quadruplex/Hemin DNAzymes

International audience; G-quadruplexes (G4s) are versatile catalytic DNAs when combined with hemin. Despite the repertoire of catalytically competent G4/hemin complexes studied so far, little is known about the detailed catalytic mechanism of these biocatalysts. Herein, we have carried out an in-depth analysis of the hemin binding site within the G4/hemin catalysts, providing the porphyrinic cofactor with a controlled nucleotidic environment. The role of swarming sites for maintaining gene flow in the brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus)

Bat-swarming sites where thousands of individuals meet in late summer were recently proposed as 'hot spots' for gene flow among populations. If, due to female philopatry, nursery colonies are genetically differentiated, and if males and females of different colonies meet at swarming sites, then we would expect lower differentiation of maternally inherited genetic markers among swarming sites and higher genetic diversity within. Aim To identify key psychosocial research in the domain of diabetes technology. Results Four trajectories of psychosocial diabetes technology research are identified that characterize research over the past 25 years. Key evidence is reviewed on psychosocial outcomes of technology use as well as psychosocial barriers and facilitating conditions of diabetes technology uptake. The effect of mixing on glucose fermentation by Zymomonas mobilis continuous culture

Abstract The influence of mixing (in the range from 300 to 1100 rpm) on the performance of Zymomonas mobilis anaerobic continuous culture was studied. Biomass yield and ethanol productivity were improved at higher stirring intensities, in parallel with a decrease in byproduct synthesis. A mixing-dependent formation of minor amounts of fructose was first demonstrated in Z. mobilis anaerobic culture on glucose. The rate of fructose synthesis and the specific activity of the key enzyme in the pathway to fructose, phosphoglucose isomerase (EC 5.3.1.9), had a maximum at 700 rpm.

WOx phase growth on SiO2/Si by decomposition of tungsten hexacarbonyl:Influence of potassium on supported tungsten oxide phases

International audience; Synchrotron based photoemission spectroscopy was used to study the adsorption of tungsten hexacarbonyl on SiO2 surfaces modified by potassium. Results were compared with the ones obtained when no potassium was present. Experiments using W4f and Si2p intensities variations show that, at 140 K, the tungsten hexacarbonyl growth proceeds via a simultaneous multilayer mode for the two kinds of surfaces but with differences in compositions of growing layers.
