PROBLEM The anatomically shaped pcl (ESKA) total hip replacement has a porous coating of the proximal stem and the cup to allow for bony ingrowth. The tip of the stem is polished. METHOD We report the results of 96 THR 6.2 years (5.25-6.7) after implantation. RESULTS There were no revisions during this period. One stem showed radiographic loosening at follow-up. There was stress-shielding in 9.4% in contrast to the concept of proximal fixation. Thigh-pain was found in 9.4%. One patient demonstrated disabling thigh-pain despite radiologic bony ingrowth. METHODS MR examinations of 54 brain metastases in 31 patients before and after SRS were reviewed. Patients were included in this study if they had a pre-treatment MR examination and serial follow-up MR examinations at 6 wk, 9 wk, 12 wk, and 12 mo after SRS. We describe a case of a chronic proximal in-stent CTO extending up to the ostium of a right coronary artery where successful achievement of guidewire passage through the CTO was performed with a retrograde approach. Guidewire trapping into the right guiding catheter was performed thereafter and procedure was completed by retrograde balloon crossing and antegrade stenting. © 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.

Since 1984 the law concerning safety belts has been implemented; this paper deals with the findings in 386 victims of motor accidents who were x-rayed between 1981 and 1989. Minor injuries have been ignored. The number of passengers wearing belts increased by 30% after 1984. The number of passenger injuries did not decrease. Injuries directly caused by the belts included a small number of fractures of clavicles, the sternum and ribs and one pelvic fracture, one serious abdominal injury with tearing of the mesenteric artery and one ruptured spleen.
