Die vielgestaltige Wassermetaphorik bei Yoko Tawada

The famous German-Japanese author Yoko Tawada lives since 1982 in Germany, where she writes in Japanese and German. This essay examines the multiform metaphor of water in the works of the writer. Furthermore, the study explores the apparently close relations between water, with its continuous changes, and the existence of a fixed identity. This paper also questions how water (a metaphor for identity) in many passages of the selected texts, is sought and rejected but also feared, desired and modified by the protagonists.

This article examines the particular relationship that the German-Japanese writer has with the language. For this reason, I will analyze some texts that are included in the three works and that constitute a kind of summa of the main linguistic aspects that emerge throughout the Tawadian literary corpus: Talisman, 1996, Überseezungen, 2002, and Akzentfrei, 2016. Talisman is still considered the most famous book written by the author in German, Überseezungen is defined as a sort of logbook of a journey that starts from Japan and leads through different continents and Akzentfrei that combines linguistic associations and surreal images.

The history of Italian publishing industry in the last years of Fascism reveals different strategies, that outline a non-heterogeneous panorama of the positions taken by publishers towards the regime's cultural policy. Alongside the publishers, like Corticelli, Salani and Guanda, who were somehow ready to collaborate with the regime, there were others who found constant compromises to keep afloat even not unconditionally submit to the new rules.
