Cavernous sinus metastasis from oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

Metastasis to the cavernous sinus from head and neck cancer is uncommon and has been previously reported by a few authors. It is usually a late manifestation of the primary tumor and may be the first evidence of a widespread dissemination of the disease. Main clinical findings are those related with involvement of cranial nerves III to VI as they pass through the cavernous sinus. Although diagnosis may be difficult, the appearance of clinical and radiological findings of cavernous sinus involvement in a context of head and neck cancer must alert us about an intracranial metastatic infiltration. Mandibular metastasis from carcinoma of the bladder: Report of a case and literature review

Metastases represent about 1% of all malignant tumors of the oral region. Only 12 cases of metastases to the jawbones and 3 to the oral soft tissues from a carcinoma of the bladder are reported in the English literature. Here we report a case of an 86 year-old man with a metastasis to the anterior region of the lower jaw from a transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder treated 5 years before, all-together with a literature review.

Effect of Ion Escape Velocity and Conversion Surface Material on H- Production

According to generally accepted models surface production of negative ions depends on ion escape velocity and work function of the surface. We have conducted an experimental study addressing the role of the ion escape velocity on H− production. A converter‐type ion source at Los Alamos Neutron Science Center was employed for the experiment. The ion escape velocity was affected by varying the bias voltage of the converter electrode. It was observed that due to enhanced stripping of H− no direct gain of extracted beam current can be achieved by increasing the converter voltage. Everyone who acquires a new language at school or elsewhere has the right to learn good pronunciation. As phonetic errors are foreseeable, this paper begins by delineating deviations in (co)articulation and prosody which are typical of Italian learners of German, with the aim of examining how far these specific, predictable phonetic problems are treated in German textbooks used in Italy.
