Interface reactivity study between La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF) cathode material and metallic interconnect for fuel cell

2011

Abstract Interface reactivity between La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (LSCF) cathode material and metallic interconnect (Crofer22APU) was investigated in laboratory air at 700 °C. Due to the interconnect geometry, two interfaces have been analysed: (i) interconnect rib/cathode interface (physically in contact); (ii) the interface under the channel of interconnect. In both cases, formation of a parasite phase was observed after various ageing treatments (20 h, 100 h and 200 h). However, the growth of the determined SrCrO4 parasite phase depends on interface type and on ageing time. Two different mechanisms have been established in function of interface type: (i) SrCrO4 phase was formed after solid …

Anisotropic chemical etching of semipolar \{10\bar {1}\bar {1}\}\mbox {/} \{10\bar {1}{+}1\} ZnO crystallographic planes: polarity versus dangling bo…

2009

ZnO thin films grown by metal?organic vapor phase epitaxy along the nonpolar direction and exhibiting semipolar facets have been chemically etched with HCl. In order to get an insight into the influence of the ZnO wurtzite structure in the chemical reactivity of the material, Kelvin probe microscopy and convergent beam electron diffraction have been employed to unambiguously determine the absolute polarity of the facets, showing that facets are unstable upon etching in an HCl solution and transform into planes. In contrast, facets undergo homogeneous chemical etching perpendicular to the initial crystallographic plane. The observed etching behavior has been explained in terms of surface oxy…

Bimodal Recovery Pattern in Human Skeletal Muscle Induced by Exhaustive Stretch-Shortening Cycle Exercise:

2007

Introduction/Purpose: Recovery of force and stretch reflex from exhaustive stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) exercise is usually bimodal, characterized as immediate exercise-induced performance reduction, with its quick recovery followed by a longer-lasting reduction in performance. A clear parallel exists between the respective changes in performance, neural activation, and metabolic or structural exercise-induced changes. This implies the existence of potential coupling between muscle failure and the induced neural adjustments that take place along its recovery. The present study was designed to explore the evidence of this coupling more thoroughly. Methods: H- and stretch reflexes were meas…

Acute effects of 15min static or contract-relax stretching modalities on plantar flexors neuromuscular properties

2010

The present study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of 15 min static or sub-maximal contract-relax stretching modalities on the neuromuscular properties of plantar flexor muscles. Ten male volunteers were tested before and immediately after 15 min static or contract-relax stretching programs of plantar flexor muscles (20 stretches). Static stretching consisted in 30s stretches to the point of discomfort. For the contract-relax stretching modality, subjects performed 6s sub-maximal isometric plantar flexion before 24s static stretches. Measurements included maximal voluntary isometric torque (MVT) and the corresponding electromyographic activity of soleus (SOL) and medial gastrocnem…

Muscle strength and range of movement deficits 1 year after hip resurfacing surgery using posterior approach.

2009

The aim was to evaluate the effect of the posterior surgical approach on hip muscle strength and range of movement (ROM).Maximal isometric external and internal rotator strength of the hip muscles and bilateral leg extension strength were measured by dynamometers. Active (AROM) and passive (PROM) range of motion of the hip were measured by goniometers in 30 patients before and 3, 6 and 12 months after hip resurfacing. Postoperatively the patients were advised to return to their usual physical activities.Prior to the surgery internal rotation strength was on the same level on both sides, whereas external rotation strength of the operated hip was 26% (p0.001) lower compared with the unoperate…

Electrochemically etched sharp aluminium probes with nanoporous aluminium oxide coatings: demonstration of addressed DNA delivery

2014

Electrochemical etching of metal wires is widely used to fabricate sharp probes for use in scanning tunnelling microscopy. In this work an electrochemical fabrication method for sharp aluminium probes coated with nanoporous anodised aluminium oxide (AAO) layer is described. The method presented here involves simultaneous anodisation and etching of aluminium wires. The probe apex radius as well as the nanopore length and diameter depend on the etching mode, which could be direct current (DC), alternating current (AC), or pulsed voltage mode (PVM). The probes, coated with a nanoporous AAO layer, were used to demonstrate addressed DNA delivery.

Effect of Chemical Etching on Adhesively Bonded Aluminum AA6082

2007

The efforts of new automotive industry are mainly directed towards the substitution of aluminum for steel in the body structure because the aluminum structures are lighter than traditional steel ones and meet the requirements, in terms of both vehicle design and manufacture. However, this substitution is not so automatic, but it is important to study the material properties and the structure design, focusing the attention on the methods of joining. Welding, typical technique to joint steel parts, is particularly difficult when applied on aluminum ones and then, in many cases, the adhesive bonding is preferred. To optimise the joint performances it is necessary to pre-treat the metal surface…

A diamond (1 0 0) surface with perfect phase purity

2015

Abstract Diamond surfaces with (1 0 0) orientation and perfect phase purity regarding the coexistence of sp3 and sp2 bonding as well as near surface nitrogen implanted layers are repeatedly produced from one sample by a cycle of nitrogen implantation, etching in oxygen and wet chemical etching. Comprehensive surface studies carried out by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) involving a deconvolution of the C 1s peak into contributions of C sp3, C sp2 and C sp3(N) reveal the surface and near-surface phase and stoichiometry. It is demonstrated that efficient etching of nitrogen implanted diamond occurs by high temperature annealing in oxygen and a wet chemical treatment.

Sensing properties of assembled Bi2S3nanowire arrays

2015

Bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) nanowires were grown in porous aluminium oxide template and a selective chemical etching was applied to transfer the nanowires to a solution. Well aligned nanowire arrays were assembled on pre-patterned silicon substrates employing dielectrophoresis. Electron beam lithography was used to connect aligned individual nanowires to the common macroelectrode. In order to evaluate the conductometric sensing performance of the Bi2S3 nanowires, current–voltage characteristics were measured at different relative humidity (RH) levels (5–80%) / argon medium. The response of the Bi2S3 nanowires depending of RH is found to be considerably different from those reported for other ty…

Evaluating the shear bond strength of enamel and dentin with or without etching: a comparative study between dimethacrylate-based and silorane-based …

2015

Background: Silorane-based composites and their specific self-etch adhesive were introduced to conquest the polymerization shrinkage of methacrylate-based composites. It has been shown that additional etching of enamel and dentin can improve the bond strength of self-etch methacrylate-based adhesives but this claim is not apparent about silorane-based adhesives. Our objective was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of enamel and dentin between silorane-based adhesive resin and a methacrylate-based resin with or without additional etching. Material and Methods: 40 sound human premolars were prepared and divided into two groups: 1- Filtek P60 composite and Clearfil SE Bond adhesive; 2- F…
