Attachment of yeast to modified stainless steel wire spheres, growth of cells and ethanol production

Abstract The immobilization of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, their growth and ethanol production were investigated using untreated and modified stainless steel wire spheres (WS) as carriers. The carrier surface was modified by oxidation, by treatment with titanium (IV) chloride (TiCl4) or by γ-aminopropyltrietoxysilane (AS) in an attempt to raise the efficiency of the immobilization of the yeast cells. Antinociceptive effects of an extract, fraction and an isolated compound of the stem bark of Maytenus rigida

The antinociceptive activity of the Maytenus rigida Mart. (Celastraceae) ethanol extract and its ethyl acetate fraction as well as of (-)-4'-methylepigallocatechin (1), a previously isolated compound, was demonstrated in vivo. ED50 for 1 in the writhing test was 14.14 mg/kg. The acetic acid-induced writhing was inhibited by 98.4, 84.4, and 58.3%, respectively, when mice were treated with the ethanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and 1. BD has serious biomedical consequences, and it is a prominent risk factor for later development of alcohol use disorders. Abstract High selectivities (93–99%) and excellent stereoselectivities (>99%) in the semihydrogenation of CC triple bonds were achieved using palladium on pumice with a metal loading of 0.5, 1.5 or 3.0% wt as catalyst. The reactions were carried out in ethanol or tetrahydrofuran with only 2.5% of ethylenediamine allowing a self-terminating semihydrogenation independently on the CC triple bond.

This study aims to analyze the ethanol content in fermented palm juice.This research includes the preparation of raw materials, fermentation, distillation and distillation products analyzed by gas chromatography method. Fermentation is carried out for 2, 5, 7 days, the highest level of bioethanol produced is then selected for distillation. Levels the highest fermentation process is on the 5th day with a level of 18%. Got results the final distillation is 117 mL with a level of 94% of the initial volume of 4.2 L fermentation based on measurements using an alcoholmeter while the analysis by gas chromatography yielded 93.9% levels. Control of food spoilage fungi by ethanol

This review discusses the effects of ethanol on the inhibition of growth and germination of fungi and on the inactivation of fungal spores. After a brief survey on the impact of spoilage fungi on the economy and food quality, the major applications of ethanol in controlling fruit decay and extending the shelf-life of food products are reviewed. Many parameters including minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and D-values for various moulds are included. The thermodynamic relationship between the liquid phase and the headspace and the mode of action of ethanol on fungi are explained. Due to their promising use as a fumigant, special attention is paid to ethanol vapours.

A mouse model of alcoholic liver disease reveals protection by Lactobacillus fermentum

The knowledge and treatment of alcoholic liver disease is still plagued with gaps mostly due to the inherent limitations of research with patients. We developed an animal model for studying liver histopathology, Hsp-chaperones involvement, and response to treatment.
