Alcohol consumption is a moderately heritable trait, but the genetic basis in humans is largely unknown, despite its clinical and societal importance. We report a genome-wide association study meta-analysis of ∼2.5 million directly genotyped or imputed SNPs with alcohol consumption (gram per day per kilogram body weight) among 12 population-based samples of European ancestry, comprising 26,316 individuals, with replication genotyping in an additional 21,185 individuals. Competitive interaction of three peroxidizing herbicides with the binding of 3H acifluorfen to corn etioplast membranes

AbstractThe specific binding of the herbicide acifluorfen 5-[2-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]-2-nitrobenzoic acid to corn etioplast membranes is competitively inhibited by protoporphyrinogen IX, the substrate of protoporphyrinogen oxidase. Three other peroxidizing molecules, oxadiazon [5-ter-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-one], LS 82556 [(S)3-N-(methylbenzyl)carbamoyl-5-propionyl-2,6-lutidine], and M&B 39279 [5-amino-4-cyano-1-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)pyrazol], also compete with acifluorfen for its binding site. The four herbicides thus bind to the same site, or to closely located sites, on the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase.

Noetherian type and Noetherian $\pi$-type are two cardinal functions which were introduced by Peregudov in 1997, capturing some properties studied earlier by the Russian School. Their behavior has been shown to be akin to that of the \emph{cellularity}, that is the supremum of the sizes of pairwise disjoint non-empty open sets in a topological space. Building on that analogy, we study the Noetherian $\pi$-type of $\kappa$-Suslin Lines, and we are able to determine it for every $\kappa$ up to the first singular cardinal. The Argo YBJ daq system and the GRID based data transfer

The Argo-YBJ experiment has now reached itsfinal design configuration. The detector system consists of a fullcoverage array (about 5800 square meters) of Resistive PlateChambers (RPCs). The throughput depends on the trigger rateand threshold. The DAQ system must be able to sustain a max-imum transfer rate of the order of 15 MB/s and a high peakdata flow. Cross-sections for the reaction Np-237 + He-3 --> Pu-236,Pu-237,Pu-238 at He-3 bombarding energies from 26 to 60 MeV were measured. Thick-target yields, based on the measured and previously known cross-sections were constructed. Se determinó la humedad, la acidez y el índice de peróxidos. Utilizando extractos en éter de petróleo y cromatografía de gases, se estableció el contenido lipídico total y los perfiles de los ácidos grasos.
