Microstructure and electric properties of low-pressure plasma sprayed β-FeSi 2 based coatings

Abstract Thermoelectric material β-FeSi 2 based coating was fabricated by the technique low-pressure plasma spray (LPPS) on the Al 2 O 3 substrate from different alloy powders. During the process LPPS, the phase transformation had occurred through the peritectoid, eutectoid reaction and their inverse reaction. The grain size of the as-sprayed β-FeSi 2 doped Co coatings was reduced comparing with the original feedstock powders, which implied the thermal conductivity could effectively decreased by the LPPS process. A comparative study on the compatibility of liquid lead–gold eutectic and liquid lead–bismuth eutectic with T91 and SS 316LN steels

Abstract Liquid lead–gold eutectic (LGE) is considered as a potential target material for high power spallation sources. In the present work, the corrosion effects of LGE on T91 and SS 316LN steels have been investigated in comparison with that of liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) under the same testing conditions. Two tests were conducted at 400 °C for 1800 h and at 450 °C for 1300 h, in which specimens of the two steels were exposed to 1 m/s flowing LGE and LBE. AbstractThe fractionation of major sea-water ions, or deviation in their relative concentrations from Standard Mean Ocean Water ratios, has been frequently observed in sea ice. It is generally thought to be associated with precipitation of solid salts at certain eutectic temperatures. the variability found in bulk sea-ice samples indicates that the fractionation of ions depends on the often unknown thermal history of sea ice, which affects the structure of pore networks and fate of solid salts within them. Abstract This paper concerns a preliminary study for a new copper recovery process from ionic solvent. The aim of this work is to study the reduction of copper in Deep Eutectic Solvent (choline chloride–ethylene glycol) and to compare the influence of temperature and the ultrasound effects on kinetic parameters. Relationships between the Impedance of Oxide Scales on Martensitic and Austenitic Steels and Corrosion Rate in Liquid Lead-Bismuth Eutectic

Abstract The impedance properties (resistance and capacitance) of oxide scales on the martensitic/ferritic steel HT-9 and austenitic stainless steel Type 316L (UNS S31603) were examined during immersion in lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) using a technique similar to electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. These scales were created by preoxidizing the samples in an air/water vapor environment at 800°C for various times prior to immersion in LBE. Calculation of oxide conductivity for samples immersed in LBE at 200°C for 200 h yielded σHT9 ≈ 4 × 10−7 (Ω × cm)−1 while σ316 ≈ 3 × 10−8 (Ω × cm)−1. Influence of preoxidation on the corrosion of steels in liquid lead-bismuth eutectic

Abstract Oxidation studies of martensitic/ferritic and austenitic steels have been conducted in static lead bismuth eutectic (LBE). Samples were preoxidized in an air/H2O gas mixture prior to immersion in LBE. Preoxidation films grown on HT-9 at 800°C for 48 h had a bilayer structure, an outer Fe-rich layer, and an inner Cr-rich layer. Glancing angle x-ray diffraction data found that two distinct structures were present in this oxide: Fe1+xCr2−xO4 spinel (cubic, face-centered cubic [fcc]) and (Cr,Fe)2O3 (rhombohedral, corundum). Kinetics of Sigma Phase Precipitation in Niobium-Stabilized Austenitic Stainless Steel and Effect on the Mechanical Properties

Stabilized austenitic stainless steels are widely used in nuclear and oil industries. The 316 Nb steel grade presented in this study holds a small amount of delta ferrite in the austenitic matrix which tends to transform into sigma phase during prolonged exposures in the temperature range of 600-1000°C. Sigma phase is promoted by ferritic elements such as chromium, molybdenum, niobium and silicon. Time-Temperature-Transformation (TTT) diagram of the δ-ferrite evolution is established thanks to DSC experiments and quantitative metallographic analysis. Abstract Sigma-phase precipitation in a 316Nb “stabilized” austenitic stainless steel was studied through complementary CALPHAD-based and dedicated experimental investigations. Thermokinetic calculations performed using Thermo-Calc (with the DICTRA module) and MatCalc software showed that the sigma phase (σ) precipitated directly at γ-austenite grain boundaries (GB) via a common solid-state reaction when carbon and nitrogen contents fell below a critical threshold.
