The main aim of this paper consists in developing an effective e-learning tool, focused on evolutionary algorithms, in order to solve the graph coloring problem. Subsidiary, we apply graph coloring for register allocation in embedded systems. We investigate the computational power of continuous-time neural networks with Hopfield-type units. We prove that polynomial-size networks with saturated-linear response functions are at least as powerful as polynomially space-bounded Turing machines.

Evolutionary selection pressures, and species-specific ecology and behavior, promote a great variability in the size and composition of nests. Abstract Organisms can mitigate the effects of long term variation in environmental conditions through acclimation, which involves changes in various physiological responses. To elucidate the possible effects of temperature and food concentrations on acclimation capacity, physiological responses of the mussel, Perna viridis, were measured after individuals were held for six weeks under varying temperatures and food availability. Warm-acclimated mussels experiencing higher food levels had significantly greater upper thermal limits than those maintained on lower food levels. Founder analysis is a method for analysis of nonrecombining DNA sequence data, with the aim of identification and dating of migrations into new territory. The method picks out founder sequence types in potential source populations and dates lineage clusters deriving from them in the settlement zone of interest. Here, using mtDNA, we apply the approach to the colonization of Europe, to estimate the proportion of modern lineages whose ancestors arrived during each major phase of settlement. AspinipogonRazowski and Becker, 2010 was described as a monotypic genus from Brazil. Aspinipogon samaypatensis Perez Santa-Rita, Valdivia and Baixeras, new species, is described and illustrated from Bolivia. The female of Aspinipogon is reported for the first time, completing the description of the genus. The unusual combination of characters (e.g., wing pattern and venation, male and female genitalia) are discussed in the context of the enigmatic systematic position of Aspinipogon.

Introduction: A role of metals exposure and essential trace element deficiency in Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) etiology has been suggested by epidemiologic studies, but conclusive evidence on this topic is still lacking and controversial. We compared metals and essential trace element levels between cases both with their brothers and healthy children. Methods: The diagnosis of ASD were performed by ADOS and ADI-R according to DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) criteria.
