Preliminary Estimation of Deoxynivalenol Excretion through a 24 h Pilot Study

2015

A duplicate diet study was designed to explore the occurrence of 15 Fusarium mycotoxins in the 24 h-diet consumed by one volunteer as well as the levels of mycotoxins in his 24 h-collected urine. The employed methodology involved solvent extraction at high ionic strength followed by dispersive solid phase extraction and gas chromatography determination coupled to mass spectrometry in tandem. Satisfactory results in method performance were achieved. The method"s accuracy was in a range of 68%108%, with intra-day relative standard deviation and inter-day relative standard deviation lower than 12% and 15%, respectively. The limits of quantitation ranged from 0.1 to 8 μg/Kg. The matrix effect w…

Transketolase-Hemmung durch D-Xylose als Ursache fr Ketopentosurie nach Xylose-Belastung

1965

1980

Poly[2-(methylsulfinyl)ethyl acrylate] (1) was synthesized as well as derivatives 14C-labelled in side groups (6) or 14C-labelled in the main chain (11). Polymer 11 with the 14C-labelled main chain was fractionated by precipitation. The η-M-relation determined by measurements of unlabelled polymers in the ultracentrifuge for comparison was used to establish the viscosimetrically determined molecular weights of the labelled fractions. After intravenous application of aqueous solutions of the polymer in rats the excretion rate up to 72 h after treatment was ascertained to ca. 50%; the concentration in the blood serum was found to be strikingly high. A tendency to reinforced storage in organs …

Individuell dosiertes Levothyroxin mit 150 µg Jodid versus 100 µg Levothyroxin kombiniert mit 100 µg Jodid: Eine randomisierte Doppelblindstudie

2008

BASIC PROBLEM AND OBJECTIVE Intrathyroid deficiency and the influence of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) are the main pathogenetic factors in the development of endemic euthyroid goitre. Goitre reduction is achieved with either administration of levothyroxine, which diminishes hypophyseal TSG production, or of iodide. Aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of treatment with a dose-fixed combination of levothyroxine plus iodide with that of an individualized dosage of levothyroxine plus iodide. PATIENTS AND METHODS After randomization 49 patients with euthyroid goitre (24 women, 25 men, aged 20-43 years) were treated for 12 weeks in a double-blind trial. Patients in group A received…

Nitric oxide metabolism is impaired by type 1 diabetes and diabetic nephropathy

2020

Diabetes leads to reduced nitric oxide bioavailability, resulting in endothelial dysfunction. However, overproduction of nitric oxide due to hyperglycaemia is associated with oxidative stress and tissue damage. The objective of this study was to characterise nitric oxide production (NO) and added nitrite and nitrate (NO(2)(-)+NO(3)(-)) concentration in the blood and urine of patients with and without diabetic nephropathy. A total of 268 patients with type 1 diabetes and 69 healthy subjects were included. Diabetic nephropathy was defined as macroalbuminuria and/or estimated glomerular filtration rate below 60 ml/min/1.73 cm(2). NO(2)(-)+NO(3)(-) concentration was measured by Griess reaction.…

Lead Excretion in Spanish Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

2015

Among epigenetic factors leading to increased prevalence of juvenile neuropsychiatric disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, exposure to metals, such as lead (Pb) have led to conflicting results. The aim of the present study was to determine the levels of Pb in the urine of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared with typically developing children (TD) age- and sex-matched, and to analyze any association between core symptoms of ASD, special diets, supplements intake or prescription drugs and the concentration of Pb. The study was performed in a group of children with ASD (n = 35, average age 7.4 ± 0.5 years) and TD (n = 34, average age 7.7 ± 0.9 years). Measurement of…

Neurobiological and Clinical Variables Associated with Alcohol Abuse in Bulimia Nervosa

2015

The study was aimed at analysing the reciprocal relationships of several clinical and neurobiological items in order to predict alcohol misuse in patients with bulimia nervosa (BN). Seventy BN patients and 70 healthy controls were assessed for depression, impulsivity, borderline personality traits and self-defeating behaviours using specific scales; serum cortisol and 24-hour urinary excretion of serotonin and 5-hydroxiindolacetic acid were also assessed. The study confirmed the implications of these clinical factors for alcohol misuse in BN patients, but the results suggested that depressive symptoms and hypercortisolism could lie behind these relationships.
