Canal foliations of S 3

The goal of the article is to classify foliations of S3 by regular canal surfaces, that is envelopes of one-parameter families of spheres which are immersed surfaces. We will add some extra information when the leaves are “surfaces of revolution” in a conformal sense.

Dielectric properties of water/lecithin/cyclohexane gels

Dielectric relaxation measurements in the frequency range 0.1–15 GHz have been carried out on water/lecithin/cyclohexane gels using a time domain reflectometry method (TDR). Dielectric dispersions describable in terms of a power law typical of percolated systems, but with exponents significantly different from those characterizing statically or dynamically percolated systems are observed. The dielectric dispersions, attributed to water and/or lecithin head group rotational motions, indicate that these motions are characterized by a wide spectrum of relaxation times.

Biomimetic strategy towards gelatin coatings on PET. Effect of protocol on coating stability and cell-interactive properties

Gelatin-modified poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) surfaces have been previously realized via an intermediate dopamine coating procedure that resulted in surfaces with superior haemocompatibility compared to unfunctionalized PET. The present study addresses the biocompatibility assessment of these coated PET surfaces. In this context, the stability of the gelatin coating upon exposure to physiological conditions and its cell-interactive properties were investigated. Liposomes modified by mono- and bis-phthalocyanines: A comprehensive EPR study.

The impact of selected metallophthalocyanines, featuring diverse molecular structure, upon the fluidity of liposome membranes was studied using the spin label EPR technique. The “mono”-type MPc’s (M = Zn, Sn; Pc = C32H16N8 is the phthalocyanine ligand) and sandwich LnPc2 complexes (Ln = Nd, Sm, Gd) were explored. Liposomes were obtained in a sonication process, from egg yolk lecithin (EYL) in water. Orientation and molecular contacts of melatonin confined into AOT and lecithin reversed micellar systems

Abstract The state of increasing amounts of melatonin (MLT) confined in dry AOT or lecithin reversed micelles dispersed in CCl 4 has been investigated by UV–vis and 1 H NMR spectroscopies. The experimental results are consistent with MLT totally entrapped in reversed micelles, as a consequence of specific melatonin/surfactant interaction; the main driving force of the MLT solubilization in the core of reversed micelles is the establishment of H-bonding between the MLT NH groups (both indolic and amidic) and the head group of surfactants. Physicochemical investigation of acrylamide solubilization in sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate and lecithin reversed micelles.

The state of acrylamide confined within dry sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) and lecithin reversed micelles dispersed in CCl4 has been investigated by FTIR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy. Measurements have been performed at 25 degreesC as a function of the acrylamide-to-surfactant molar ratio (R) at a fixed surfactant concentration (0.1 mol kg(-1)). The analysis of experimental data, corroborated by the results of SAXS measurements, is consistent with the hypothesis that acrylamide is quite uniformly distributed among reversed micelles mainly located in proximity to the surfactant head-group region and that its presence induces significant unidimensional growth of micellar aggregates.…

Adsorption of gelatin during electrodeposition of copper and tin-copper alloys from acid sulfate electrolyte

International audience; An acid Cu–Sn deposition bath was developed, and copper and copper–tin coatings were electrodeposited on polycrystalline platinum. The effect of gelatin on copper and copper–tin electrodeposition from acid sulfate solutions has been investigated by a variety of electrochemical methods (voltammetric studies and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance) as well as by morphologic technique (scanning electron microscopy). Impact of electron beam irradiation on fish gelatin film properties

International audience; The objective of this work was to display the effect of electron beam accelerator doses on properties of plasticized fish gelatin film. Electron spin resonance indicates free radical formation during irradiation, which might induce intermolecular cross-linking. Tensile strength for gelatin film significantly increases after irradiation (improved by 30% for 60 kGy). The vapour permeability is weakly affected by irradiation.
