JAK3/STAT5/6 Pathway Alterations Are Associated with Immune Deviation in CD8+ T Cells in Renal Cell Carcinoma Patients

To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying altered T cell response in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients, we compared autologous and allogeneic CD8(+) T cell responses against RCC line from RCC patients and their HLA-matched donors, using mixed lymphocyte/tumor cell cultures (MLTCs). In addition, we analyzed the expression of molecules associated with cell cycle regulation. Autologous MLTC responder CD8(+) T cells showed cytotoxic activity against RCC cell lines; however the analysis of the distribution of CD8(+) T-cell subsets revealed that allogenic counterparts mediate superior antitumor efficacy. Formation of basement membrane in extracapillary proliferates in rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis

In the extracapillary proliferations (crescents) of the glomeruli in glomerulonephritis, basement membranes appear and in addition "secretory bodies" are formed in the cisternae of the rough endoplasmatic reticulum. The findings permit the conclusion that proliferated visceral epithelial cells are involved in the crescent formation to a greater extent than previously assumed.

Metabolic and cardiopulmonary effects of detraining after a structured exercise training programme in young PCOS women

Summary Objective  The aim of the present study was to determine if the favourable cardiopulmonary and metabolic benefits induced by exercise training (ET) programme are maintained after its cessation. Tracheal development and the von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor homolog in Drosophila.

von Hippel-Lindau disease is a hereditary cancer syndrome. Mutations in the VHL tumor suppressor gene predispose individuals to highly vascularized tumors. However, VHL-deficient mice die in utero due to a lack of vascularization in the placenta. To resolve the contradiction, we cloned the Drosophila VHL homologue (d-VHL) and studied its function. It showed an overall 50% similarity to the human counterpart and 76% similarity in the crucial functional domain: the elongin C binding site. A survey of seroprevalence of human papillomavirus types 16, 18 and 33 among children.

The importance and natural history of HPV infections in childhood is incompletely understood. We performed a survey for presence of serum antibodies to HPV capsids among 1031 children aged 0 to 13 years, resident in Stockholm, Sweden. The HPV seroprevalence among these children was 3.0% for HPV16, 0.6% for HPV18 and 2.7% for HPV33. By comparison, among simultaneously analyzed positive control panels comprising women with CIN or healthy women with type-specific cervical HPV DNA, seroprevalence of HPV 16, 18 and 33 was 69%, 58% and 63% respectively. The results suggest that HPV infection in childhood is not common.

Immunohistochemical location of HPL, SP1 and β-HCG in normal placentas of varying gestational age

Sixty-four placentas at various gestational ages were examined by immunohistochemical stains for HPL, SP1 and beta-HCG according to a modified PAP method (Sternberger 1970). Syncytiotrophoblast cell layer was identified as the main site of synthesis. Extravillous immunohistochemical reactions for HPL and SP1 (but not for beta-HCG) were found in X-cells of the basal plate and in the intervillous trophoblast islands. These cell types would thus seem to be derived from trophoblast. Hofbauer-cells of villous connective tissue stained specifically for beta-HCG apparently because of HCG phagocytosis.
