C8161-melanoomasolulinjan erittämien tekijöiden vaikutus fibroblastien hyaluronaanituotantoon
2011
Hyaluronaani on suurikokoinen soluväliaineen sokerirakenne. Se koostuu toistuvista sokerimolekyyleistä N- asetyyliglukosaminista ja glukuronihaposta. Hyaluronaani syntetisoidaan solukalvolla hyaluronaani- syntaasien (HAS) toimesta, joita nisäkkäillä on kolme isomuotoa (HAS1-3). Hyaluronaanin hajotus tapahtuu hyaluronidaasientsyymien (Hyal) toimesta. Hyaluronaanin l…
Case Report: Unusual Clinical Presentation of a Rare Cardiac Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor in Children: The Differential Diagnosis With Pediatri…
2021
Introduction: There are still no guidelines about pediatric cardiac cancers. The purpose of this work is to provide new scientific data facilitating the differential diagnosis of a rare cardiac tumor with an unusual presentation, such as the cardiac inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT).Case Presentation: A 3-year-old male child presented with several symptoms including unconsciousness, vomiting, and drowsiness. A clinical and neurological examination revealed a unilateral (right) motor delay and positive unilateral Babinski sign. Electrocardiogram (ECG) was normal.Diagnostic Assessment: The total body computed tomography (CT) scans showed hypodensity in the left temporal–parietal lobe, …
Fibroblasts from bank voles inhabiting Chernobyl have increased resistance against oxidative and DNA stresses
2018
Background Elevated levels of environmental ionizing radiation can be a selective pressure for wildlife by producing reactive oxygen species and DNA damage. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms that are affected are not known. Results We isolated skin fibroblasts from bank voles (Myodes glareolus) inhabiting the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident site where background radiation levels are about 100 times greater than in uncontaminated areas. After a 10 Gy dose of gamma radiation fibroblasts from Chernobyl animals recovered faster than fibroblasts isolated from bank voles living in uncontaminated control area. The Chernobyl fibroblasts were able to sustain significantly higher do…
Arrangement of myofibroblastic and smooth muscle-like cells in superficial peritoneal endometriosis and a possible role of transforming growth factor…
2018
Purpose: Superficial peritoneal endometriotic (pEM) lesions are composed of endometrial glands and stroma, in addition to a third component—myofibroblasts and smooth muscles (SM)-like cells. The latter develops secondary to a metaplasia. In this study, we characterised the third component cells in pEM according to differentiation markers in different micro-compartments. Furthermore, a possible effect of TGFβ1 on myofibroblastic metaplasia in endometriotic epithelial cells was studied. Methods: Seventy-six premenopausal patients were included. Peritoneal biopsies were excised from EM patients (n = 23), unaffected peritoneum (peritoneum from EM patients but without EM components, n = 5/23) an…
ASTROCYTES SHED EXTRACELLULAR VESICLES THAT CONTAIN FIBROBLAST GROWTH FACTOR-2 AND VASCULAR ENDOTHELIAL GROWTH FACTOR.
2007
An important component of the pathogenic process of multiple sclerosis (MS) is the blood-brain barrier (BBB) damage. We recently set an in vitro model of BBB, based on a three-cell-type co-culture system, in which rat neurons and astrocytes synergistically induce brain capillary endothelial cells to form a monolayer with permeability properties resembling those of the physiological BBB. Herein we report that the serum from patients with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) has a damaging effect on isolated neurons. This finding suggests that neuronal damaging in MS could be a primary event and not only secondary to myelin damage, as generally assumed. SPMS serum affects the perme…
Computed tomography bone density variations in oncological patients undergoing antiresorptive medication
2021
The purpose of this study was to compare jaw and cervical vertebrae bone density in computed tomography (CT) analyses of oncological patients undergoing antiresorptive medication with control patients, aiming to find information that may assist the radiologist and clinician in predicting risks and monitoring osteonecrosis in the jaw. Thirty-one patients treated with zoledronic acid and 37 control were included in the study. Two areas in regions of interest were chosen and standardized, one in the lower portion of the mandible and another in the axial cervical vertebra (C2) of patients undergoing antiresorptive drug treatment (experimental group) and the control group. Density analysis was p…

Nitinola matricas ar bioaktīvo slāni izveide pielietojumam asinsvadu ķirurģijā
2022
NEURONS PRODUCE FGF-2 AND VEGF SECRETE THEM AT LEST IN PART BY SHEDDING EXTRACELLULAR VESCICLES
2007
Abstract We previously found that neurons are able to affect the ability of brain capillary endothelial cells to form in vitro a monolayer with properties resembling the blood-brain barrier. We then looked, by immunofluorescence and western analysis, for factors, produced by neurons, with the potential to influence growth and differentiation of endothelial cells. In the present paper, we report that neurons produce both vascular endothelial growth factor and fibroblast growth factor 2, two well-known angiogenic factors. More interestingly, we gained evidence that both factors are released by neurons, at least in part, by shedding of extracellular vesicles, that contain β1 integrin, a membra…
Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Larynx: Case report.
2007
Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMT) of the larynx are uncommon lesions that easily may be misinterpreted as malignant epithelial or mesenchymal spindle cell neoplasms. When located in the upper airway, IMTs tend to be less aggressive, but have the potential for local invasion and recurrence. The authors describe a rare case of IMT in a 47 year old man, occurring in the vocal fold who underwent surgical treatment five times, because of its higher recurrence rate
