Aktywizowanie rozwoju sprawności słuchania w języku polskim jako ojczystym

2020

The aim of the present article is to present the typology of listening comprehension skills activated during Polish language lessons. What the author claims is that in Polish school two types of listening co-exist, namely: natural and activated. The former resembles conditions of natural communication, since a student assumes the role of text recipient, whereas the latter is a process of teaching the skills of listening comprehension. Based on questions and instructions elicited from selected school handbooks shows in what way the activated type of listening comprehension is taught as a part of Polish as a mother tongue lessons.

2019

The present article attempts to record and present as much as possible the Latin translations of hagiographical texts during the Middle Byzantine period. The texts are first approached from a literary point of view, then a historical presentation is attempted, referring to their possible functional use in the traditions of the two churches, Constantinople and Rome.

Carnaval y música: una breve semblanza de la Tuna Compostelana de 1888

2021

At the end of the 19th century, Spanish carnivals have been marked by the participation of the different tunas or also known as, estudiantinas. These groups achieved significant relevance in Galicia, especially in the city of Compostela, which, year after year, encouraged and supported the formation of groups of this nature to liven up the carnivals in the different Spanish cities. Although, different from its predecessors, the Santiago Tuna of 1888 ventured and made its mark in history, thanks to its intrepidity in having been the first Galician group that crossed the borders and enlivened the carnivals in the cities of the neighboring country, Portugal. This research, approached from a hi…

The Role of Second-language Learning in diagnosing Students Gaps of Knowledge. Towards a symptomatic Use of Interdisciplinarity

2012

Abstract This discussion-paper aims to present a concrete, albeit untested, hypothesis regarding how second-language learning lessons could prove useful in diagnosing essential signs of confusion, misunderstanding, or of any other kind of cognitive blunder which affects the scientific knowledge of late primary-education students (aged 10-12). In opposition to the somewhat rigid means of evaluation normally employed in content-oriented subjects, such as History, Biology, etc. —exams, tests and written assignments, carried out, as a rule, in the children‘s native language—, this discussion-paper defends that the accuracy of the student's knowledge may also, though not only, be evaluated by pa…

Les déterminants de la réussite à l’université. Quels apports de la recherche en Éducation ? Quelles perspectives de recherche ?

2016

In France, the university is experiencing the problem of failure, especially in the first cycle. This article aims to establish, in a chronological perspective, a literature review of the contributions of educational research in the French context, the various factors contributing to this failure. The aim is firstly to show how evolved the research on the determinants of academic success since the 1990s. It is, secondly, to examine what types of research can still be conducted on the subject. That will lead us in particular that, despite questioning from several decades of university teaching, few studies have so far been conducted in the French context regarding the impact of teaching prac…

Draining and drying process development of the Tokamak Cooling Water System of ITER

2016

Abstract The ITER Organization (IO) developed a thermal-hydraulic (TH) model of the complex first wall and blanket (FW/BLK) cooling channels to determine gas flow rate and pressure required to effectively blow out the water in the FW/BLK. In addition, US ITER conducted experiments for selected geometries of FW/BLK flow channels to predict the blowout parameters. The analysis indicates that as low as 2 MPa of pressure difference over the blanket modules will ensure substantial evacuation of the water in blankets with just a few percent remaining in the blanket flow channels. A limited validation study indicates that the analysis yields less conservative results to compare against data collec…

How Do Students Value the Importance of Twenty-first Century Skills?

2014

Frameworks of twenty-first century skills have attained a central role in school development and curriculum changes all over the world. There is a common understanding of the need for meta-skills such as problem solving, reasoning, collaboration, and self-regulation. This article presents results from a Finnish study, in which 718 school pupils aged 11 to 15 years were asked to anticipate the skills they would need in the future. Accordingly, they were asked to value and rank the twenty-first century skills listed in existing frameworks and pick out those they regarded as the most important they had learned. Social skills and collaboration were ranked highest, both in the listed frameworks …

Two-variable First-Order Logic with Counting in Forests

2018

We consider an extension of two-variable, first-order logic with counting quantifiers and arbitrarily many unary and binary predicates, in which one distinguished predicate is interpreted as the mother-daughter relation in an unranked forest. We show that both the finite satisfiability and the general satisfiability problems for the extended logic are decidable in NExpTime. We also show that the decision procedure for finite satisfiability can be extended to the logic where two distinguished predicates are interpreted as the mother-daughter relations in two independent forests.

Vocabulary Gains of Mono- and Multilingual Learners in a Linguistically Diverse Setting: Results From a German-English Intervention With Inclusion of…

2018

Today, group settings (e.g., in kindergarten) are more linguistically-diverse than ever. However, concepts in language acquisition only rarely include this fact. This paper reports on the effects of a language intervention which is based on a concept specifically designed for linguistically-diverse settings („PROgramme for BI- and MUltilingual Children“; Festman and Rinker, 2014). The implementation of the programme and its outcomes are described with the example of a German-English-immersion kindergarten, which was in fact plurilingual. We aimed at supporting children’s acquisition of the two languages in parallel with inclusion of their home languages. Overall, 52 (mono-, bi-, and triling…
