Regional blood flow in deep structures of the brain measured in acute cat experiments by means of a new beta-sensitive semiconductor needle detector.

Regional cerebral blood flow was measured by means of isotope clearance with a new type of solid state beta-sensitive needle detector (diameter 0.9 mm) introduced into the brain tissue in acute cat experiments. The flow values obtained within the cortex were compared with values recorded above the same cortical region with the same needle detector, or with a small GM-tube. The insertion of the needle detector into the brain tissue gave rise to injury (checked histologically) which deformed the clearance curves in a manner suggesting that the normal circulation had been destroyed within the tissue from which the measurements were made.

In order to investigate whether hypertension-related structural vascular changes may be influenced by antihypertensive treatment, 10 patients were studied suffering from essential arterial hypertension, five males and five females, aged between 34 and 61 years (mean age: 46.9 +/- 8.13 years). All patients received a placebo for 1 week and then captopril, 75 mg b.i.d. for 3 months. After placebo and captopril treatments, the following parameters were evaluated: SBP, DBP, mean blood pressure (MBP), by the formula 1/3 (SBP + 2 x DBP) and basal and minimal vascular resistances, respectively obtained by the ratios MBP/rest flow and MBP/peak flow. The exact solution of the Riemann problem with non-zero tangential velocities in relativistic hydrodynamics

We have generalised the exact solution of the Riemann problem in special relativistic hydrodynamics for arbitrary tangential flow velocities. The solution is obtained by solving the jump conditions across shocks plus an ordinary differential equation arising from the self-similarity condition along rarefaction waves, in a similar way as in purely normal flow. The dependence of the solution on the tangential velocities is analysed, and the impact of this result on the development of multidimensional relativistic hydrodynamic codes (of Godunov type) is discussed.
Acoustic doppler velocity profiler for velocity and turbulence measurements in a large amplitude meandering flume

Flow over deformed bed of a meandering laboratory channel is experimentally investigated. The velocity components have been obtained using an Ultrasonic Doppler Profiler (DOP2000) that measures the instantaneous flow velocity profile along the probe direction. In this work, some results obtained in peculiar sections along the channel are reported. A refined mesh of the measurement points has been used for each considered cross-section. The structure of steady, relativistic, magnetised jets with rotation

We present equilibrium models of relativistic magnetised, infinite, axisymmetric jets with rotation propagating through an homogeneous, unmagnetised ambient medium at rest. The jet models are characterised by six functions defining the radial profiles of density, pressure, and the toroidal and axial components of velocity and magnetic field. Fixing the ambient pressure and the jet rest-mass density and axial components of the flow velocity and magnetic field, we analyze the influence of the toroidal magnetic field and several rotation laws on the structure of the equilibrium models. Laser Doppler flowmetry has been applied to subepidermal rat tumours during localized ultrasound hyperthermia and/or moderate, short-term hyperglycaemia. Blood glucose levels were elevated 4-fold by continuous i.v. infusion of D-glucose (4.8 g/kg/60 min). To determine whether the effects of hyperglycaemia on tumour blood flow involved increased rates of glycolysis and lactic acid production, galactose, a sugar not metabolized by the tumour, was administered using the same dose schedule. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine changes in color Doppler imaging parameters before and after optic nerve sheath decompression (ONSD) for chronic papilledema caused by pseudotumor cerebri (PTC). The estimation of velocity profile in turbulent open channels is a difficult task due to the significant effects of the secondary flow. The present paper investigates the mechanism of the velocity-dip phenomenon, whereby the location of the maximum velocity appears to be below the free surface. Previous studies conducted in straight channels relate the mechanism of the velocity-dip phenomenon to secondary flow induced by anisotropy of turbulence.
