How Hosts Taxonomy, Trophy, and Endosymbionts Shape Microbiome Diversity in Beetles.

Bacterial communities play a crucial role in the biology, ecology, and evolution of multicellular organisms. In this research, the microbiome of 24 selected beetle species representing five families (Carabidae, Staphylinidae, Curculionidae, Chrysomelidae, Scarabaeidae) and three trophic guilds (carnivorous, herbivorous, detrivorous) was examined using 16S rDNA sequencing on the Illumina platform. Gene family encoding translationally controlled tumour protein (TCTP) is defined as highly conserved among organisms; however, there is limited knowledge of non-bilateria. In this study, the first TCTP homologue from anthozoan was characterised in the Mediterranean Sea anemone, Anemonia viridis. The release of the genome sequence of Acropora digitifera, Exaiptasia pallida, Nematostella vectensis and Hydra vulgaris enabled a comprehensive study of the molecular evolution of TCTP family among cnidarians. Wild apple (Malus spp.) by-products as a source of phenolic compounds and vitamin C for food applications

Abstract The phytochemical profile and positive health effects of the fruits and by-products of domesticated Malus domestica Borkh. apple cultivars have been extensively investigated. The present study was designed to evaluate the hydrophilic composition and antioxidant activity of the compounds recovered from wild apple Malus spp. by-products. The phytochemical analysis of the 30 and 96% ethanolic extracts using LC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS has led to the detection and isolation of 25 hydrophilic compounds. Background and Aim: Musts and wines produced from rotten grapes often have an earthy/musty odour, with geosmin the responsible compound. Penicillium expansum is considered a potential source of geosmin in rotten grapes from vineyards treated with copper-based fungicides. Methods and Results: The laboratory study assessed the influence of temperature (10‐30°C), copper concentration (0‐76.50 mg/L) and CO 2 in the headspace (0.03‐3%) on the spore count and the production of geosmin by P. expansum according to a Doehlert design. Draft genome sequences of Vibrio vulnificus strains recovered from moribund tilapia

Potentially zoonotic Vibrio vulnificus strains were isolated from vibriosis outbreaks occurring on eastern Mediterranean tilapia farms between 2016 and 2019. In this work, the draft genome sequences of three representative isolates are presented.
