Protective effect of mesoporous silica particles on encapsulated folates.
2016
Mesoporous silica particles (MSPs) are considered suitable supports to design gated materials for the encapsulation of bioactive molecules. Folates are essential micronutrients which are sensitive to external agents that provoke nutritional deficiencies. Folates encapsulation in MSPs to prevent degradation and to allow their controlled delivery is a promising strategy. Nevertheless, no information exists about the protective effect of MSPs encapsulation to prevent their degradation. In this work, 5-formyltetrahydrofolate (FO) and folic acid (FA) were entrapped in MSPs functionalized with polyamines, which acted as pH-dependent molecular gates. The stability of free and entrapped vitamins af…
Synthesen mit substituierten Malondialdehyden, XI. γ‐Formyl‐tetramethinmerocyanin‐, γ‐Formyl‐pentamethincyanin‐ und [2.2.2]Heptamethincyanin‐Farbstof…
1972
Dinuclear Rh(II) complexes in styrene hydroformylation. Enhancement of catalytic activity through orthometalation
1995
Three dirhodium(II) compounds including orthometalated PPh3 ligands have been tested as catalytic precursors for the hydroformylation of styrene. The activities obtained and the wide range of selectivities have been compared to the same reaction performed with RhH(CO)(PPh3)3, Rh2(O2CCH3)4 and various amounts of triphenylphosphine.
Staphylococcal alpha-toxin provokes neutrophil-dependent cardiac dysfunction: role of ICAM-1 and cys-leukotrienes.
2002
The role of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) in septic myocardial dysfunction is presently unknown. Staphylococcus aureus infections are frequently associated with septic sequelae. Therefore, we perfused isolated rat hearts with low doses of α-toxin, the major staphylococcal exotoxin, followed by application of human PMN, N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine, and arachidonic acid. In contrast to sham-perfused hearts (no α-toxin), a rise in coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) and a reduction of contractile function were noted, and cardiac expression of intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 was detected by immunohistochemical methods and real-time PCR. Histological analysis and myelope…
TNFα Primes Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes for an Enhanced Respiratory Burst to a Similar Extent As Bacterial Lipopolysaccharide
1990
We examined whether preincubating polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) with TNF alpha would result in an enhanced respiratory burst upon subsequent stimulation by various agents. Bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a known primer of PMN, was used as control. We found that both LPS (0.01 to 10.0 microgram/ml) and recombinant TNF alpha (0.001 to 1.0 microgram/ml) act as direct stimulants of PMN as measured by chemiluminescence. Sixty minutes of preincubation of PMN with 1 microgram/ml TNF alpha or 10 micrograms/ml LPS resulted in similar priming for the respiratory burst elicited by opsonized zymosan, phorbol myristate acetate, zymosan, zymosan-activated serum, aggregated immunoglobulin, and f-…
Polymorphonuclear leukocyte integrins in deep venous thrombosis
2005
The polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) have a role in the pathophysiology of deep venous thrombosis (DVT). We examined the phenotypical expression of PMN beta2-integrins (CD l l a, CDl l b, CD 11c) in a group of 19 subjects with leg DVT. PMN cells were incubated with fluorescent monoclonal antibodies against CD11a, CD11b, CD11c, and the evaluation was made by flow cytofluorimetry. The same integrins were determined after in vitro activation with 4-phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) and N-formylmethionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP). In DVT subjects, at baseline, the phenotypical expression of CD11b was decreased and that of CD11c increased when compared with normal controls. In normal su…
Polymorphonuclear leukocyte integrins in chronic renal failure
2005
Patients with chronic renal failure (CRF), in comparison with general population, show a higher cardiovascular mortality, not fully explained by the "traditional" risk factors. Among the new factors that have been hypothesized, leukocytes might play an important role. In a group of patients with mild CRF we determined, at baseline and after in vitro activation with 4-phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA) and N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP), the polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) beta2-integrin pattern (CD11a, CD11b, CD11c and CD18) by using indirect immunofluorescence with a flow cytometer. At baseline we observed an increase in the phenotypical expression of CD11b, CD11c and…
Pharmacological activity of PF-904 in guinea pig in vivo, and on human bronchus and neutrophils in vitro.
1997
The effects of PF-904 (4-amino-1-ethyl-6-methylpyrazino[2,3-c][1,2,6]thiadiazine 2,2-dioxide), a pyrazinothiadiazine derivative, were examined in guinea-pig airways in vivo, in human isolated bronchus and human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. PF-904 (12.5-200 mg/kg, intraduodenal) reduced bronchoconstriction in response to histamine, arachidonic acid, platelet-activating factor (PAF) and methacholine. PF-904 (50-200 mg/kg) prevented PAF-induced airways hyperreactivity and inhibited antigen-induced bronchoconstriction, airway microvascular leakage and eosinophil lung accumulation, but antigen-induced airways hyperresponsiveness was not reduced. PF-904 (1 microM-1 mM) produced complete inhibiti…
Hydroformylation of 1-Hexene over Rh/Nano-Oxide Catalysts
2013
The effect of nanostructured supports on the activity of Rh catalysts was studied by comparing the catalytic performance of nano- and bulk-oxide supported Rh/ZnO, Rh/SiO₂ and Rh/TiO₂ systems in 1-hexene hydroformylation. The highest activity with 100% total conversion and 96% yield of aldehydes was obtained with the Rh/nano-ZnO catalyst. The Rh/nano-ZnO catalyst was found to be more stable and active than the corresponding rhodium catalyst supported on bulk ZnO. The favorable morphology of Rh/nano-ZnO particles led to an increased metal content and an increased number of weak acid sites compared to the bulk ZnO supported catalysts. Both these factors favored the improved catalytic performan…
Triphenyltin(IV) 2-[(E)-2-(aryl)-1-diazenyl]benzoates as anticancer drugs: Synthesis, structural characterization, in vitro cytotoxicity and study of…
2009
Summary: Triphenyltin(IV) complexes of composition [Ph3SnL 1H]n (1) and [Ph3SnL2H]n (2) (where L1H=2-[(E)-2-(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-diazenyl] benzoate and L2H = 2-[(E)-2-(4-Hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)-1-diazenyl] benzoate) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic (1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR, IR, 119Sn Mössbauer) techniques in combination with elemental analysis. The molecular structures and geometries of the complexes (1 and 2) were fully optimized using the quantum mechanical method (PM3). Complexes (1 and 2) were found to exhibit stronger cytotoxic activity in vitro across a panel of human tumour cell lines viz., A498, EVSA-T, H226, IGROV, M19 MEL, MCF-7 and WIDR. The test compound…
