Synthesis of a New Fluorinated Oxazolidinone and Its Reactivity as a Chiral Auxiliary in Aldol Reactions.
2007
A new enantiomerically pure fluorinated oxazolidinone has been prepared from a fluorinated imidoyl chloride and an optically pure sulfoxide. The diastereoselective reduction of the β-iminosulfoxide thus formed followed by elimination of the sulfoxide and cyclization of the created aminoalcohol furnishes the desired product. The fluorinated oxazolidinone was subsequently used as a chiral auxiliary in Aldol reactions. We also found that the selective formation of the syn-Evans and syn-non-Evans diastereoisomer can be controlled by adjusting the Lewis acid/base ratio.
Ultrasound-assisted green solvent extraction of high-added value compounds from microalgae Nannochloropsis spp.
2015
Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate ultrasound (US)-assisted green solvent extraction of valuable compounds from the microalgae Nannochloropsis spp. Individual green solvents (water, ethanol (EtOH), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)) and binary mixture of solvents (water-DMSO and water-EtOH) were used for the extraction procedures. Maximum total phenolic compounds yield ( Y p ≈ 0.33) was obtained after US pre-treatment ( W = 400 W, 15 min), being almost 5-folds higher compared to that found for the untreated samples and aqueous extraction ( Y p ≈ 0.06). The highest yield of total chlorophylls ( Y c ≈ 0.043) was obtained after US ( W = 400 W, 7.5 min), being more than 9-folds highe…
Dependence on nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) levels discriminates conventional T cells from Foxp3 + regulatory T cells
2012
Several lines of evidence suggest nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) to control regulatory T cells: thymus-derived naturally occurring regulatory T cells (nTreg) depend on calcium signals, the Foxp3 gene harbors several NFAT binding sites, and the Foxp3 (Fork head box P3) protein interacts with NFAT. Therefore, we investigated the impact of NFAT on Foxp3 expression. Indeed, the generation of peripherally induced Treg (iTreg) by TGF-β was highly dependent on NFAT expression because the ability of CD4 + T cells to differentiate into iTreg diminished markedly with the number of NFAT family members missing. It can be concluded that the expression of Foxp3 in TGF-β–induced iTreg depends…
A rapid and cost-efficient DMSO-based method for isolating DNA from cultured lichen photobionts
2010
We have developed a simple and fast procedure for the purification of PCR-quality DNA from cultured lichen photobionts. This new one-step method uses the solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) combined with heat treatment to chemically breakdown algal and plant tissues. The DMSO-DNA extracts may be directly precipitated and purified by standard techniques in a total time of approximately 30 min. Compared to other DNA extraction protocols, the DMSO-based method suppresses the need for liquid nitrogen, any extraction buffer, grinding, phenol, and long incubation or centrifugation steps, thereby considerably reducing the possibility of contamination. In addition, minimal amounts of starting materia…
Role of Phase Behavior and Atomization in the Supercritical Antisolvent Precipitation
2003
An experimental study on supercritical antisolvent (SAS) precipitation has been performed to gain insight into the role of phase behavior and atomization in controlling morphology and dimension of precipitates. The mixture yttrium acetate/dimethyl sulfoxide has been used as the main model system and supercritical CO 2 has been used as the antisolvent. Two SAS apparatuses (laboratory and pilot scale) with two injector arrangements and operating with various injector diameters in the range 60-500 μm have been used. The results showed that operating above the mixture critical point (MCP) of the ternary mixture yttrium acetate/dimethyl sulfoxide/ carbon dioxide, sub-micrometric particles are ge…
A comparison of various calibration techniques applied to the ninhydrin-cefoxitin determination
1996
Abstract This report deals with spectrophotometric determination of cefoxitin from intact antibiotics or from its acid induced degradation product by means of their reaction with ninhydrin in a strong sulphuric acid medium. To obtain the calibration graphs four methods were used: absorbance of reacted cefoxitin against a reagent blank as an analytical signal, first-derivative signal of absorbance against a water blank as an analytical signal, first-derivative signal of absorbance against a reagent blank as an analytical signal and the H-Point Standard Additions Method (HPSAM) by using absorbance increment values as analytical signals. The HPSAM is applied to the determination of cefoxitin i…
Microwave-assisted chemical modification of g-C3N4 for photoinduced processes: organic degradation, hydrogen production and selective oxidation of al…
2023
g-C3N4 powders were treated by means of the microwave technique in three different aqueous and organic media (HNO3, NaOH and N,N-dimethylformamide). All powders were analyzed by XRD reveling that g-C3N4 maintains its structure. The morphology of the samples was analyzed with scanning electron microscopy, where the micrographs reveals that the modifcation occurs on the surface of the g-C3N4. The photocatalytic activity of the samples was evaluated in the degradation of ciprofoxacin, hydrogen production and for the selective partial oxidation of 4-methoxybenzylalcohol (4-MBA) to its aldehyde. The sample treated with HNO3 (C3N4-HNO3) shows the best photocatalytic performance in the degradation…
Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and antiproliferative activity of two platinum(II) complexes containing N-donor heterocycles
2014
Abstract Novel mononuclear complexes of Pt(II), cis -[PtCl 2 (DMSO)HL]·2DMSO ( 1 ), where HL = 7-amino-2-(methylthio)[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5- a ]pyrimidine-6-carboxylic acid and Pt(bdt)Cl 2 ( 2 ), where bdt = [2,4-bis(5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazin-3yl)-pyridine] have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography diffraction analyses. The molecular structure of ( 1 ) shows that Pt(II) ion has a square planar geometry with N(3) bonded heterocycle ligand, two cis chloride anions and S-bonded dimethylsulfoxide. The antiproliferative activity of complexes ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) has been tested in vitro against HepG2 human hepatoma cells and non…
TGF-β Dependent T-Cell Regulation in Colitis and Colon Cancer
2008
Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a potent growth inhibitor endowed with tumor-suppressing activity. Unfortunately, cancers are often resistant to such growth inhibition. This evasion frequently results from a genetic loss of functional TGF-β signaling components. On the other hand, cancer cells often produce high amounts TGF-β1 by themselves and sometimes respond to it with invasion and metastasis. Much effort is being done to develop therapeutic approaches to modulate TGF-β signaling in cancer cells either to inhibit the TGF-β-induced invasive phenotype or to reestablish its growth-inhibitory activities. However, TGF-β is a pleiotropic cytokine with important functions not only in c…
