MOF-Mediated Synthesis of Supported Fe-Doped Pd Nanoparticles under Mild Conditions for Magnetically Recoverable Catalysis**
2020
Metal–organic framework (MOF)-driven synthesis is considered as a promising alternative for the development of new catalytic materials with well-designed active sites. This synthetic approach is used here to gradually transform a new bimetallic MOF, with Pd and Fe as the metal components, by the in situ generation of aniline under mild conditions. This methodology results in a compositionally homogeneous nanocomposite formed by Fe-doped Pd nanoparticles that, in turn, are supported on iron oxide-doped carbon. The nanocomposite has been fully characterized by several techniques such as IR and Raman spectroscopy, TEM, XPS, and XAS. The performance of this nanocomposite as an heterogeneous cat…
A [Cr2Ni] coordination polymer: slow relaxation of magnetization in quasi-one-dimensional ferromagnetic chains
2018
The reaction of [Cr3IIIO(OAc)6(H2O)3]NO3·AcOH with 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde, 2-amino-isobutyric acid and NiCl2·6H2O in MeOH, under basic and solvothermal conditions, led to the formation of the quasi-1D coordination polymer {[CrIII2NiII(L)4(MeOH)2]}n (where L = the dianion of the Schiff base between 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde and 2-amino-isobutyric acid), which behaves as a ferromagnetic chain, displaying slow relaxation of magnetization.
Capturing Hydrophobic Trifluoroiodomethane in Water into an M 4 L 6 Cage
2016
Synthetically important trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) was trapped in water by using a metal–organic supramolecular anionic cage. Under ambient conditions, nearly 1:1 encapsulation of the hydrophobic, gaseous CF3I substrate with the cage was observed, and its binding constant was calculated by relative comparison with benzene encapsulation.
Metal-organic framework-activated carbon composite materials for the removal of ammonia from contaminated airstreams
2019
L.N.M and R.E.M wish to acknowledge the financial support from the EPSRC industrial CASE award (grant EP/N50936X/1). A.T and G.B would like to thank the financial support from the Fondo per il finanziamento delle attività base di ricerca (grant PJ-RIC-FFABR_2017). Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous materials that show promise in the removal of Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) from contaminated airstreams, though their development for this application has so far been hindered by issues of water stability and the wide availability and low cost of traditionally used activated carbons. Here a series of three MOF-activated carbon composite materials with different MOF to carb…
Exploiting the Redox Activity of MIL-100(Fe) Carrier Enables Prolonged Carvacrol Antimicrobial Activity
2022
The design of efficient food contact materials that maintain optimal levels of food safety is of paramount relevance to reduce the increasing number of foodborne illnesses. In this work, we develop a smart composite metal-organic framework (MOF)-based material that fosters a unique prolonged antibacterial activity. The composite is obtained by entrapping a natural food preserving molecule, carvacrol, into a mesoporous MIL-100(Fe) material following a direct and biocompatible impregnation method, and obtaining particularly high payloads. By exploiting the intrinsic redox nature of the MIL-100(Fe) material, it is possible to achieve a prolonged activity against Escherichia coli and Listeria i…
Highly Efficient Removal of Neonicotinoid Insecticides by Thioether-Based (Multivariate) Metal–Organic Frameworks
2021
Circumventing the impact of agrochemicals on aquatic environments has become a necessity for health and ecological reasons. Herein, we report the use of a family of five eco-friendly water-stable isoreticular metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), prepared from amino acids, as adsorbents for the removal of neonicotinoid insecticides (thiamethoxam, clothianidin, imidacloprid, acetamiprid, and thiacloprid) from water. Among them, the three MOFs containing thioether-based residues show remarkable removal efficiency. In particular, the novel multivariate MOF {SrIICuII6[(S,S)-methox]1.5[(S,S)-Mecysmox]1.50(OH)2(H2O)}·36H2O (5), featuring narrow functional channels decorated with both -CH2SCH3 and -CH2…

Innovation capabilities: What are their characteristics and how can they be conceptualized?
2017
Purpose – It has been argued that firms may utilize their resources and capabilities through the development of innovations in the form of new products, services or processes, and empirical research has confirmed that there is a positive relationship between the implementation of innovation activities and future performance of firms. Some firms prove to be better at reproducing innovation success than other firms, and the capacity to do so can be framed as an innovation capability. However, the term innovation capability is ambiguously treated in extant literature. There exist several different definitions of the concept and the distinction between innovation capabilities and other types of…
La préservation de l'environnement nocturne : les enjeux d'une controverse sociotechnique
2013
This communication explains the birth of an environmental problem, light pollution, understood as a socio-technical controversy. Over forty years, in support of the actor-network approach, it traces the conditions of its emergence, transformation and dissemination to local, national and transnational levels, and through various professional disciplines. Schematically, "environmentalists" uphold a holistic approach of "nocturnité" and define artificial light as a pollutant. Facing them, the "technicist" defend a segmented approach and define artificial light as a nuisance. The implementation of this controversy on the political agenda leads to institutional decisions that grasp it with diffi…
Metal‐organic frameworks for new technological and environmental applications
2019
