Editorial: Postural control, exercise physiology and the balance training—type of exercises, mechanisms and insights

2023

Editorial on the Research Topic Postural health, today more than ever, is entering a part of everyday life and is associated with the biomechanical analysis of the human body. The ability to obtain or restore a stable state of balance is referred to as postural control (Pollock et al., 2000). Postural control is a complex task, and many factors contribute to good control. The postural control is dependent on peripheral sensory systems and their functioning. In addition, receptors such as vision and the vestibular system have a significant influence on the postural control system. The quality of the performance of this system depends on the integration of visual, vestibular, proprioceptive, …

Relationship between static posturography and gait analysis with the dizziness handicap inventory in vestibular patients

2012

[EN] Objective: The posturography evaluates postural control abnormalities in patients with vestibular disorders. On the other hand, the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) questionnaire quantifies the impact of these diseases on the patient’s daily life. This paper has aimed to know the relationship between posturography test results and the DHI scores. Material and Methods: A total of 29 subjects with vestibular diseases underwent a static posturography and gait analysis. The system used was NedSVE/IBV. The patients also answered DHI questions. Results: We found a statistically significant positive correlation between static posturography outcomes and physical-functional DHI scores. A stat…

Pētījuma gaita un tā rezultāti izklāstīti 2 nodaļās. Pirmā nodaļā tiek analizētas teorētiskās atziņas par bērnam nepieciešāmajām kompetencēm, lai veiksmīgi uzsāktu skolas gaitas, raksturoti bērni vecākajā pirmsskolas vecumā pētāma temata aspektā un izpētīti faktori, kas ietekmē bērna gatavību mācībām skolā. Otrā nodaļa veltīta pētījuma metodoloģijas izstrādēi un veikts pētījums pirmsskolas izglītības iestād…

Should we use gait speed in COPD, FEV 1 in frailty and dyspnoea in both?

2016

Frailty is a progressive physiological decline in multiple organ systems marked by loss of function, loss of physiological reserve and increased vulnerability to disease [1]. Biological (inflammation and loss of hormones), clinical ( e.g. sarcopenia and osteoporosis) and social factors are involved in frailty onset, evolution and prognosis [2, 3]. Links between frailty, dyspnoea and chronic respiratory diseases represent a novel and practical approach

No zoba pulpas cilmes šūnām izolētu eksosomu ietekme uz dzīvnieku gaitu 6-hidroksidopamīna inducētā Pārkinsona slimības modelī žurkās

2019

Continuous Analysis of Running Mechanics by Means of an Integrated INS/GPS Device

2019

This paper describes a single body-mounted sensor that integrates accelerometers, gyroscopes, compasses, barometers, a GPS receiver, and a methodology to process the data for biomechanical studies. The sensor and its data processing system can accurately compute the speed, acceleration, angular velocity, and angular orientation at an output rate of 400 Hz and has the ability to collect large volumes of ecologically-valid data. The system also segments steps and computes metrics for each step. We analyzed the sensitivity of these metrics to changing the start time of the gait cycle. Along with traditional metrics, such as cadence, speed, step length, and vertical oscillation, this system est…

Autonomic Stress Response and Perceived Effort Jointly Inform on Dual Tasking in Aging

2019

The study investigated, through neuroendocrinological, subjective and behavioral assessments, how aging individuals cope with locomotor-cognitive dual-tasking and whether physical activity habits influence the acute response to locomotor-cognitive performance. Seventy-nine healthy participants aged 55&ndash

Marche et démences

2008

Experimental and Modeling Analyses of Human Motion Across the Static Magnetic Field of an MRI Scanner

2021

It is established that human movements in the vicinity of a permanent static magnetic field, such as those in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners induce electric fields in the human body; this raises potential severe risks of health to radiographers and cleaners exposed routinely to these fields in MRI rooms. The relevant directives and parameters, however, are based on theoretical models, and accurate studies on the simulation of the effects based on human movement data obtained in real conditions are still lacking. Two radiographers and one cleaner, familiar with MRI room activities and these directives, were gait analyzed during the execution of routine job motor tasks at different…
