Tris- and tetrakis-[oligo(phenylenevinylene)]silanes: synthesis and luminescence behaviour

2002

Abstract The connection of three or four monodisperse oligo(phenylenevinylene)s to a central silicon atom is performed via Wittig–Horner reactions. The terminal rings are substituted with alkoxy side chains. Depending on the ratio of the lengths of the rigid conjugated units and the flexible side chains, transparent films can be obtained from several of these trigonal-pyramidal or tetrahedral molecules. An intense fluorescence in the blue-green region is emitted by molecules of either shape. These compounds are interesting as active materials for electro-optical applications due to their intense fluorescence and improved film forming capability.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-07-05 Tekes Academy of Finland Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) The molecular fingerprints of yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Dekkera bruxellensis, and Wickerhamomyces anomalus (former name Pichia anomala) have been examined using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and helium ion microscopy (HIM). The SERS spectra obtained from cell cultures (lysate and non-treated cells) distinguish between these very closely related fungal species. Highly SERS active silver nano-particles suitable for detecting complex biomolecules were fabricated using a simple synt…

Design and Validation of a FPGA-Based HIL Simulator for Minimum Losses Control of a PMSM

2021

This work examines the FPGA programmable logic platforms applied to minimum losses control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), which represents a flexible solution for the implementation of an advanced digital control algorithm, given their intrinsic parallel structure and the capability to be directly reprogrammable in the field. In particular, design and validation of a FPGA-based Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulator is proposed, by investigating about data format, quantization and discretization effects and other issues arising during the experimental validation of a controller prototype, in order to reduce the embedded software development cycle and test control systems. The…

New-stage discharge relationships for free and submerged sluice gates

2012

Abstract The flow movement through a sluice gate is investigated for both free and submerged flow conditions. For free flow condition, the current dimensionless formula, indicated acceptable accuracy; while for submerged flow condition it was modified especially for low submerged condition. In this regard, Buckingham theorem along with the Incomplete Self-Similarity concept was employed and a new stage–discharge relationship was developed accordingly. Also, to achieve a suitable formula for submerged flow condition being accurate in low submergence, the maximum tailwater depth allowing the free flow condition and head loss factor were identified as missing parameters in the functional dimen…

New stage-discharge relationship for cylindrical and semi-cylindrical edged sluice gates

2019

Abstract Gates are simple hydraulic structures which have been widely used for flow control and measurement in irrigation networks. In this paper new sluice gates with cylindrical and semi-cylindrical edges were introduced and the flow movement below these types of gates was experimentally investigated for both free- and submerged-flow conditions. The Buckingham theorem of dimensional analysis and the self-similarity theory were applied for developing the stage-discharge relationships for the two investigated flow conditions. For these cylindrical and semi-cylindrical edged gates and a free-flow condition, the proposed stage-discharge relationship was characterized by an estimate error less…

La prestación de maternidad en los supuestos de gestación subrogada

2018

Surrogate pregnancy, as a technique of assisted reproduction prohibited by Spanish law, raises a number of legal questions than, in certain cases, trascend of the Civil Law. Specifically, it has been discussed about de possibility that de person or persons consigner in the gestation contract substitution have access to the provision for maternity benefit. Recently, the Spanish Supreme Court has responded to this issue in the sense of recognizing the right to the provision for maternity benefit to the father or mother ?in fact?, efecttively, develop own parental powers.

The role of parents in the engagement of young children with digital technologies: Exploring tensions between rights of access and protection, from ‘…

2016

This study investigates the role played by parents as mediators of young children’s access and engagement with digital technologies. In Belgium, Germany, Latvia and Portugal, qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 families in each country, including one child between 6 and 7 years old. Our findings show that parents of young children mainly play the role of ‘gatekeepers’ when it comes to facilitating and constraining access to and use of digital technologies. Parents’ perceptions of the efficacy of digital technologies as responsible entertainment and as educational tools influence the technologies available at home and accessible to the child. These perceptions in turn impa…

How do journals of different rank instruct peer reviewers? Reviewer guidelines in the field of management

2020

Current knowledge on peer review consists of general formulations of its goals and micro level accounts of its practice, while journals’ attempts to guide and shape peer review have hardly been investigated so far. This article addresses this gap by studying the content of the reviewer guidelines (RG) of 46 journals in the field of management, as editors may use guidelines to nudge reviewers considering all relevant criteria, properly, and consistently with the needs of the journal. The analysis reveals remarkable differences between the instructions for reviewers of journals of different rank. Average and low rank journals mostly use evaluation forms, they emphasize the empirical contribut…

Structure, stability, and fragmentation of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate negatively charged aggregates in vacuo by MD simulations.

2014

Negatively charged supramolecular aggregates formed in vacuo by n bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT(-)) anions and n + n(c) sodium counterions (i.e., [AOT(n) Na(n+nc)](nc)) have been investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for n = 1 to 20 and n(c) = -1 to -5. By comparing the maximum excess charge values of negatively and positively charged AOTNa aggregates, it is found that the charge storage capability is higher for the latter systems, the difference decreasing as the aggregation number increases. Statistical analysis of physical properties like gyration radii and moment of inertia tensors of aggregates provides detailed information on their structural properties. Even for …

Implementation of JPEG2000 arithmetic decoder using dynamic reconfiguration of FPGA

2005

This paper describes implementation of a part of JPEG2000 algorithm (MQ-Decoder and arithmetic decoder) on a FPGA board using dynamic reconfiguration. Comparison between static and dynamic reconfiguration is presented and new analysis criteria (time performance, logic cost, spatio-temporal efficiency) are defined. MQ-decoder and arithmetic decoder can be classified in the most attractive case for dynamic reconfiguration implementation: applications without parallelism by functions. This implementation is done on an architecture designed to study dynamic reconfiguration of FPGAs: the ARDOISE architecture. The implementation obtained, based on four partial configurations of arithmetic decoder…
