Cost comparison of image rotation implantations on static and dynamic Reconfigurable FPGAs
2002
FPGA components are widely used today to perform various algorithms (digital filtering) in real time. The emergence of Dynamically Reconfigurable (DR) FPGAs made it possible to reduce the number of necessary resources to carry out an image processing application (tasks chain). We present in this article an image processing application (image rotation) that exploits the FPGA 's dynamic reconfiguration feature. A comparison is undertaken between the dynamic and static reconfiguration by using two criteria, cost and performance criteria. For the sake of testing the validity of our approach in terms of Algorithm and Architecture Adequacy, we realized an AT40K40 based board ARDOISE.
Automated Integration and Communication Synthesis of Reconfigurable MPSoC Platform
2007
The communication synthesis is the main problematic in the multiprocessor system-on-chip (MPSoC). To resolve this problem, several methodologies can be used. These methodologies require automated methods to specify, generate and optimize the hardware, software, and the architectural interfaces between them. In this paper, we present a methodology flow for hardware-software communication synthesis for multiprocessor system-on-chip platform which are dedicated to streaming applications. Our methodology consists of high level architecture communication synthesis from functional description of the MPSoC design. The solution that we propose consists in synthesizing a custom bus architecture for …
Soil quality indicators as affected by a long term barley-maize and maize cropping systems
2011
Most soil studies aim a better characterization of the system through indicators. In the present study nematofauna and soil structure were chosen as indicators to be assess soil health as related to agricultural practices. The field research was carried out on the two fodder cropping systems continuous maize (CM, Zea mays L.) and a 3-year rotation of silage-maize – silage-barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) with Italian ryegrass (R3) and grain-maize maintained in these conditions for 18 years. Each crop system was submitted to two management options: 1) the high input level (H), done as a conventional tillage, 2) the low input level (L), where the tillage was replaced by harrowing and the…
Design Procedures for Soil-Lime Stabilization for Road and Railway Embankments. Part 1-Review of Design Methods
2012
AbstractWhen selecting the appropriate materials for constructing road infrastructures, an important way for minimizing both the economical and environmental impact is to make use of lime for treating soils that are not suitable for road or railways construction.Advances in lime stabilization technique allowed the successful use of this technique also for improving the bearing capacity of the subgrade, with noticeable savings on both aggregate and disposal charges. In this paper a review of internationally adopted design methods for soil-lime mixture is presented, in order to compare testing methods and requirements of the adopted criteria, as discussed in Part 2.

Commutators, C0-semigroups and resolvent estimates
2004
Abstract We study the existence and the continuity properties of the boundary values on the real axis of the resolvent of a self-adjoint operator H in the framework of the conjugate operator method initiated by Mourre. We allow the conjugate operator A to be the generator of a C 0 -semigroup (finer estimates require A to be maximal symmetric) and we consider situations where the first commutator [ H ,i A ] is not comparable to H . The applications include the spectral theory of zero mass quantum field models.
Synthesis, Characterization, and Saccharide Binding Studies of Bile Acid − Porphyrin Conjugates
2007
Synthesis and characterization of bile acid-porphyrin conjugates (BAPs) are reported. Binding of saccharides with BAPs in aqueous methanol was studied by monitoring changes in the visible absorption spectral of the porphyrin-moieties. Although these studies clearly showed absorbance changes, suggesting quite high if non-selective binding, the mass spectral studies do not unambiguously support these results.
Entrapment of amino acids in gas phase surfactant assemblies: The case of tryptophan confined in positively charged (1R,2S)-dodecyl (2-hydroxy-1-meth…
2017
The ability of positively charged aggregates of the surfactant (1R,2S)‐dodecyl (2‐hydroxy‐1‐methyl‐2‐phenylethyl))dimethylammonium bromide (DMEB) to incorporate D-tryptophan or L-tryptophan in the gas phase has been investigated by electrospray ion mobility mass spectrometry (ESIâIMâMS). Strongly impacted by the pH of the electrosprayed solutions, both protonated (T+) and deprotonated (T-) tryptophan are effectively included into the aggregates, whereas, tryptophan in zwitterionic (T0) form is practically absent in singly charged DMEB aggregates but can be found in multiply charged ones. The ability to incorporate tryptophan increases with the aggregation number and charge state of aggr…
FPGA implementation of Spiking Neural Networks supported by a Software Design Environment
2011
Abstract This paper is focused on the creation of Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) in hardware due to their advantages for certain problem solving and their similarity to biological neural system. One of the main uses of this neural structure is pattern classification. The chosen model for the spiking neuron is the Spike Response Model (SRM). For SNN design and implementation, a software application has been developed to provide easy creation, simulation and automatic generation of the hardware model. VHDL was used for the hardware model. This paper describes the functionality of SNN and the design procedure followed to obtain a working neural system in both software and hardware. Designed VHD…
FPGA implementation of Spiking Neural Networks
2012
Abstract Spiking Neural Networks (SNN) have optimal characteristics for hardware implementation. They can communicate among neurons using spikes, which in terms of logic resources, means a single bit, reducing the logic occupation in a device. Additionally, SNN are similar in performance compared to other neural Artificial Neural Network (ANN) architectures such as Multilayer Perceptron, and others. SNN are very similar to those found in the biological neural system, having weights and delays as adjustable parameters. This work describes the chosen models for the implemented SNN: Spike Response Model (SRM) and temporal coding is used. FPGA implementation using VHDL language is also describe…
