Experimental and Numerical Study on the Flow Field and Friction Factor in a Pressurized Corrugated Pipe

An experimental campaign including measurement of pressure drops and velocity profiles was conducted on the pressurized flow in a commercial corrugated pipe. The results show that the empirical graphs suggested by Morris in the fifties may produce inaccurate assessments of the friction factor, in particular, for low Reynolds numbers. The experimental data was then reproduced by means of a numerical model with the large eddy simulation (LES) technique. The friction factor behavior for low and relatively high Reynolds numbers was thus investigated. International audience; Two new conjugated porphyrin-based systems (dimers 3 and 4) endowed with suitable crown ethers have been synthesized as receptors for a fullerene-ammonium salt derivative (1). Association constants in solution have been determined by UV–vis titration experiments in CH2Cl2 at room temperature. The designed hosts are able to associate up to two fullerene-based guest molecules and present association constants as high as ∼5 × 108 M–1. Calculation of the allosteric cooperative factor α for supramolecular complexes [3·12] and [4·12] showed a negative cooperative effect in both cases. Fullerene receptors prepared by a twofold CuI -catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction with -extended tetrathiafulvalene (exTTF) have been covalently linked to singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Comparing air quality indices aggregated by pollutant

In this paper a new aggregate Air Quality Index (AQI) useful for describing the global air pollution situation for a given area is proposed. The index, unlike most of currently used AQIs, takes into account the combined effects of all the considered pollutants to human health. Its good performance, tested by means of a simulation plan, is confirmed by a comparison with two other indices proposed in the literature, one of which is based on the Relative Risk of daily mortality, considering an application to real data.

Energy and spatial distribution of traps in SiO2/Al 2O3 nMOSFETs

The energy and spatial profiling of the interface and near-interface traps in n-channel MOSFETs with SiO2/Al2O3 gate dielectrics is investigated by charge-pumping (CP) measurements. By increasing the amplitude as well as lowering the frequency of the gate pulse, an increase of the charge recombined per cycle was observed, and it was explained by the contributions of additional traps located higher in energy and deeper in position at the SiO2/Al2O3 interface. In addition, CP currents, acquired after different constant voltage stress, have been used to investigate the trap generation in this dielectric stack. © 2006 IEEE.

Two new polymeric conjugates for specific liver targeting were prepared by conjugation of sugar moieties and antiviral drugs to alpha, beta-poly[N-2-(hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide] (PHEA). PHEA-galactopyranosylphenylthiocarbamide-mono-O-succinylganciclovir (conjugate 7) and PHEA-mannopyranosylphenylthiocarbamide-O-succinylacyclovir (conjugate 8) were synthesized according to a multi-step procedure which allowed for obtaining high product yield and process standardization.
