Alcoholic beverages, obesity, physical activity and other nutritional factors, and cancer risk: A review of the evidence

International audience; Purpose: Prevention is a priority in the fight against cancers, especially nutritional prevention. To update the levels of evidence of relationships between 10 nutritional factors and cancer risk, the scientific literature published from 2006 to 2014 was reviewed by an expert group.Methods: Data from 133 meta-analyses, pooled analyses or intervention trials were examined. Znaczenie rehabilitacji w ocenie poziomu sprawności i wydolności tlenowej pensjonariuszek Domów Pomocy Społecznej

Cel pracy. Celem prac była ocena wpływu stosowanej rehabilitacji u pensjonariuszek Domu Pomocy Społecznej na poziom sprawności i wydolności aerobowej. Materiał i metodyka. Przebadano 17 kobiet uczęszczających i 13 nieuczęszczających na zajęcia rehabilitacji. Przedział wieku badanych wynosił 80-84 lata. Do oceny wykorzystano test SPPB oraz 6-minutowy test marszu. Wyniki. Wszystkie badane cechy służące do oceny poziomu sprawności wydolności aerobowej różnią się istotnie między dwiema badanymi grupami. Background. The physical changes inherent to aging can reduce autonomy and functional independence, which may directly or indirectly lead to falls. Aim of the study. The aim of this study was to assess the risk of falls in patients over 75 years of age. Materials and methods. Fifty elderly patients were examined. The subjects were divided into the three age groups: 75–79, 80–84 and 85–90 years old. The Berg Balance Scale was used to assess the risk of falls related to the balance skills. Results. Neighborhood resources associated with active travel in older adults: A cohort study in six European Countries

Objectives: To study associations between perceived neighborhood resources and time spent by older adults in active travel. Methods: Respondents in six European countries, aged 65–85 years, reported on the perceived presence of neighborhood resources (parks, places to sit, public transportation, and facilities) with response options “a lot,” “some,” and “not at all.” Daily active travel time (total minutes of transport-related walking and cycling) was self-reported at the baseline (n = 2,695) and 12–18 months later (n = 2,189).
