High resistance against clindamycin, metronidazole and amoxicillin in Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans isolates of …

2010

Objectives: To test the antimicrobial sensitivity of two periodontal pathogens to a panel of five orally administrable antibiotics in periodontal disease. Study design: A total of 69 isolates of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis were processed using culture and biochemical tests. Selected colonies of A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis were used to evaluate the antibacterial activity of clindamycin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, moxifloxacin and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. Results: Susceptibility testing revealed a sensitivity of 100% of A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis to moxifloxacin and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid but moderate susceptibili…

Mutes gļotādas mikrocirkulācijas novērtējums izmantojot attēlvides fotopletizmogrāfiju

2019

Manipulācijas ar smaganām ir kļuvušas par standarta procedūrām zobārstniecībā rosinot nepieciešamību pēc smaganu funkcionālām izvērtēšanas metodēm. It īpaši tādēļ, ka smaganu klīniskā aina nevienmēr atspoguļo to funkcionālo stāvokli un morfoloģiskās īpatnības var nomaskēt funkcionālos traucējumus.

Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma on Gingiva, Edentulous Ridge, and Retromolar Pad: A Case Series

2021

(1) Background: Gingival cancer has a significant incidence and is often diagnosed at advanced stages. The aim of this paper is to highlight its clinical aspects on the basis of a case series analysis in order to promote awareness and improve the diagnosis process. (2) Methods: Oral cancers diagnosed and treated at three Italian University Hospitals over ten years were retrospectively investigated. Cancer location on the gingiva, edentulous ridge, and retromolar pad was addressed. Data regarding clinical features, stage at the diagnosis, and time from presenting symptoms to first medical consultation were retrieved. (3) Results: Thirty-three cancers located on the gingiva, edentulous ridge,…

Periodontal Behavior and Patient Satisfaction of Anterior Teeth Restored with Single Zirconia Crowns Using a Biologically Oriented Preparation Techni…

2021

bjectives. The aim of this study was to analyze the behavior of the periodontal tissues around teeth in the anterior region when restored with zirconia single crowns, using a biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT), over a 6-year follow-up. Methods. The study investigated tooth-supported single crowns in the anterior region that were fabricated with a zirconia core and feldspathic ceramic covering, in 34 patients. Follow-up analysis took place annually for 6 years, assessing periodontal responses by evaluating the following variables: plaque index (PI)

Absence of binding of human salivary glycoprotein to human gingival fibroblast-like cells in vitro.

1996

The aim of this study was to determine whether human high molecular weight salivary glycoprotein binds in vitro to human gingival fibroblast-like cells. Primary monolayer cultures of 2 human gingival fibroblast-like cell lines were incubated with a high molecular weight fraction of salivary glycoprotein which expressed blood group A activity and glycoprotein-cell binding probed using an FITC-conjugated mouse monoclonal antibody to human blood group A antigen. Surface fluorescence of protein-treated cells was found to be no greater than that of untreated or serum-treated control cultures. As significant binding of salivary glycoprotein to gingival fibroblast-like cells does not occur in vitr…

Update on gingival overgrowth by cyclosporine A in renal transplants

2007

Severe gingival overgrowth is one of the most frequent side effects in renal transplant patients associated with assumption of cyclosporine A. Several associations with age, sex, dosage, duration of therapy or interval since transplantation have been hypothesized. The introduction of alternative immunosuppressant drugs have been suggested to permit better long-term transplant outcomes and a decrease in incidence of gingival overgrowth. The aim of the present paper is to summarize current knowledge regarding aetiology, pathogenesis and management of gingival overgrowth induced by Cyclosporine A. El sobrecrecimiento gingival severo es uno de los efectos adversos más frecuentes en los paciente…

Congenital granular cell tumor (congenital epulis): A lesion of multidisciplinary interest

2007

Congenital granular cell tumor (CGCT), or congenital epulis, is an uncommon benign soft tissue lesion that usually arises from the alveolar mucosa of neonates and may cause respiratory and feeding problems. We report a case of a 3- day-old female newborn, who presented an intraoral tumor mass which was protruding from her mouth, compromising feeding. Under general anesthesia, the lesion was completely removed and the patient had an uneventful postoperative course. Clinical features and treatment approaches are presented and discussed, emphasizing the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach in such cases.

Gingival displacement using diode laser or retraction cords: A comparative clinical study.

2018

PURPOSE: To compare two systems used for conditioning the gingival sulcus and exposing the finish line before the final impression for a fixed denture: retraction cords and diode laser. METHODS: All subjects participating in the study had healthy gingival and periodontal status before intervention for fixed prosthesis. 74 abutments for complete crown restoration were randomly divided into two groups for displacing the gingival sulcus before the final impression: gingival retraction cords (RC) and diode laser (DL). The height of the clinical crowns was measured by a blinded examiner in three points of the buccal surface (mesial, midline and distal) at four different times: after tooth prepar…
