El aprendizaje del inglés a través de la creación colaborativa de relatos digitales del ámbito turístico
2016
[EN] This paper presents an educational innovation project focused on the use of digital storytelling in English for Specific Purposes teaching, specifically in English language courses for Tourism. With a socio-constructive approach and a focus on active learning, in this project students in the second, third and fourth year of the Degree in Tourism and the Double Degree in Tourism and Business Administration from the University of Valencia were invited to create tourism promotional videos reflecting their professional communicative situations. This was done through a number of interrelated tasks which included introductory activities, teamwork planning, storyboarding and script preparatio…
2017
[EN] The objective of the present communication is the preparation of short duration videos, less than 2 minutes (microvideos) where the main ideas of the different topics of the subject General Chemistry would be summarized in a fashion way, enhancing the teaching/learningn process. The development of the videos must be done by the students to fix the main concepts of the lectures and to acquire transversal key competences such as collaborative learning, problem solving skills, self-directed learning and organizative and technologic skills. The obtained results can be considered as preliminar reults, because of effectivity has been evaluated qualitatively. To obtain more realistic conclusion…
Aprendizaje basado en proyectos en los laboratorios de comunicaciones digitales
2019
[EN] Digital Communications and Signal Processing for Communications have been traditionally taught from a theoretical point of view. The complexity and cost of radio-frequency systems hampers the realization of practical experiences in the laboratories of Communications. However, current Academic Accreditation includes the dimension of “what students are expected to be able to do”. The decrease of the gap between standard simulated laboratory sessions and more practical and realistic approaches is therefore required. In this paper, we introduce an active learning methodology we have followed in order to introduce practical aspects related to Digital Communications and Signal Processing for…
Revision of the Eurasian species of Aegilips Haliday, 1835 (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Anacharitinae)
2022
The knowledge of Aegilips in Eurasia is updated. One new species is described: Aegilips insularis Mata-Casanova and Pujade-Villar sp. nov., from Portugal (Madeira). The genus is also cited for the first time in the Indomalayan region with specimens of A. atricornis found in Northern India and Pakistan. Aegilips curvipes Giraud, 1860, Aegilips gemellus Belizin, 1961, Aegilips laevis (Hedicke, 1914), Aegilips montanus Belizin, 1951 and Aegilips punctatus Belizin, 1951 are synonymized with A. nitidulus (Dalman, 1823). Aegilips vena Fergusson, 1985 is synonymized with Aegilips zaitzevi Kovalev, 1974. Aegilips notatus Belizin, 1951, and Aegilips punctulatus Hedicke, 1928 are designated as incert…
Targeting antibiotic resistant bacteria with phage reduces bacterial density in an insect host
2019
Phage therapy is attracting growing interest among clinicians as antibiotic resistance continues becoming harder to control. However, clinical trials and animal model studies on bacteriophage treatment are still scarce and results on the efficacy vary. Recent research suggests that using traditional antimicrobials in concert with phage could have desirable synergistic effects that hinder the evolution of resistance. Here, we present a novel insect gut model to study phage–antibiotic interaction in a system where antibiotic resistance initially exists in very low frequency and phage specifically targets the resistance bearing cells. We demonstrate that while phage therapy could not reduce th…
Application of action camera video for fast and low-cost photogrammetric survey of cultural heritage
2022
Abstract. The research work focuses on the growing of fast and low-cost data surveying methods (both in the acquisition and processing phases), to be used mainly as a support for the management and enhancement of architectural heritage. Attention is paid on the diffusion of action cameras, characterized by wide-angle lenses and 4K video shooting, with more and more affordable prices and on the elaboration of the data with photogrammetry software. The high-resolution videos captured by these tools, in fact, allow the selection of frames characterized by sufficient overlap, necessary for point cloud generation through Structure for Motion (SfM) processes. The focus is on indoor environment ch…
Social Constructionist and Social Engineer
2021
This chapter follows the times series of the previous chapter. It is not just the scale of the problem that distinguishes one stage from another but also the nature of the problem. When social entrepreneurs try to shift the context in an institutional approach, they have to face some issues previously described in the second part of the book. This case study exemplifies what these issues are, linked to the concept of legitimacy, and the strategies carried out by the social entrepreneur to overcome them.
Legitimacy of Social Ventures
2021
Legitimacy of organizations or ways of acting remains a basic factor to compete. A company whose actions differ from other companies may have legitimacy issues. To overcome them, it will be necessary to demonstrate that the new actions are also legitimate. To do so, a process of legitimation is necessary. This process alone will confer the necessary taken-for-grantedness to survive. Social entrepreneurship, as a type of institutional entrepreneurship, can experiment with these difficulties. Studying these difficulties becomes necessary to understand the conflicts of interest that move society for or against social ventures.
Institutional Entrepreneurship, Trust, and Regulatory Capture in the Digital Economy
2019
In regard to the problem of the new markets' opening and their regulation, some scholars have introduced the concept of “institutional entrepreneur” in economic literature. This new definition of entrepreneur is important to highlight, albeit in informal and descriptive terms, the existence of functional relationships between activities typical of private market competition and those more specifically, of the public sector. Even if this new economic character can provide an interesting key to understanding what can really happen in the narrow zone that separates the public and private markets, it does not consider some conceptual components that are not minor for the purposes of complete ch…
