A Procedure for Selecting Representative Subsamples of a Population from a Simple Random Sample

This paper proposes a procedure for selecting large subsamples drawn from a large simple random sample that are more representative of the population under study. By means of the so-called constant of proportionality, the procedure seeks to maximize the size of the subsample taken from a stratified random sample with proportional allocation, restricting it to a p-value high enough to achieve a good fit using Pearson’s chi-square goodness of fit test. Topology testing of phylogenies using least squares methods

[Background] The least squares (LS) method for constructing confidence sets of trees is closely related to LS tree building methods, in which the goodness of fit of the distances measured on the tree (patristic distances) to the observed distances between taxa is the criterion used for selecting the best topology. The generalized LS (GLS) method for topology testing is often frustrated by the computational difficulties in calculating the covariance matrix and its inverse, which in practice requires approximations. The weighted LS (WLS) allows for a more efficient albeit approximate calculation of the test statistic by ignoring the covariances between the distances.

An Examination of the Structure of the Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale (Short Form) Among Italian High School Students

This study aims to evaluate the factor structure of Career Decision Self-Efficacy scale-short form in a sample of Italian high school adolescents. confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to test the degree to which a one-factor structure and a five-factor structure provided the best fit. In view of available research the five-factor structure was expected to provide the best fit. Moreover, factorial invariance in males and females was tested. It was expected to be invariant across groups. As expected the five-factor structure showed a better fit than the one-factor model and the factorial invariance resulted invariant across boys and girls.

Aim Frailty has become a current topic of debate in recent years among researchers as a key concept of clinical care in old age. One of the scales developed for its measurement is the Kihon Checklist (KCL). However, the dimensionality of the KCL has not been tested yet, and therefore the aim of the present study was to validate its dimensional structure. Nonparametric clustering of seismic events

In this paper we propose a clustering technique, based on the maximization of the likelihood function defined from the generalization of a model for seismic activity (ETAS model, (Ogata (1988))), iteratively changing the partitioning of the events. In this context it is useful to apply models requiring the distinction between independent events (i.e. the background seismicity) and strongly correlated ones. This technique develops nonparametric estimation methods of the point process intensity function. To evaluate the goodness of fit of the model, from which the clustering method is implemented, residuals process analysis is used.

Validez factorial del “cuestionario para la evaluación del síndrome de quemarse por el Trabajo” (CESQT) en una muestra de médicos mexicanos

El objetivo del este estudio fue evaluar la validez factorial y la consistencia interna del “Cuestionario para la Evaluación del Síndrome de Quemarse por el Trabajo” (CESQT). Se hipotetizó un modelo de cuatro factores, similar al del oringinal. La muestra fueron estuvo formada por 1110 médicos del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. El instrumento está formado por 20 items distribuidos en 4 subescalas: Ilusión por el trabajo (5 items), Desgaste psíquico (4 items), Indolencia (6 items), y Culpa (5 items). El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar la adaptación y estudio de las propiedades psicométricas del Cuestionario de consecuencias de consumo de alcohol en jóvenes, forma breve (B-YAACQ) en una muestra de 323 estudiantes de Psicología españoles, de los cuales el 74.3% son mujeres. Se realizó una retro-traducción de los ítems siguiendo las normas de la ITC, y un análisis factorial confirmatorio (AFC) con el programa Mplus mediante el método de extracción WLSMV y la matriz de correlaciones policóricas.
