MADoSPRO: a new approach to molecular modelling studies on a series of DNA minor groove binders

2006

The aim of this work was devoted to develop a method to predict Delta G values for a series of minor groove binders. Starting from a matrix of docking dataset for 10 minor groove binders (known and not) to 20 DNA fragments, with various sequences, it was possible to analyze the interaction modes and to calculate the Delta G value for new derivatives through MADoSPRO procedure. The method allowed, through the QSPR analysis, to characterize the type of interactions in such complexes, that was demonstrated to be related to quantum chemical and electrostatic descriptors, in agreement with the information available in literature on the structural requirements of specific minor groove ligands. The reciprocal link between music and movement studied through music-induced movements

2014

Music and movement are inseparable. The movements that are spontaneously procuded when listening to music are thought to be related to the close relationship between the perceptual and motor system in listeners. This particular link is the main topic of this thesis. A first approach was focused on the impact of music-induced movements on music cognition. In two studies, we show that moving along to music neither enhances the retention of new musical pieces (Study 1) nor the retention of the contextual information related to their encoding (Study 2). These results suggest a shallow processing inherent to the expression of musical affordances required for the production of music-induced movem…

Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of new oligopyrrole carboxamides linked with tricyclic DNA-intercalators as potential DNA ligands or topo…

2007

In the context of the design and synthesis of minor groove binding and intercalating DNA ligands some new oligopyrrole carboxamides were synthesized. These hybrid molecules (combilexins) possess a variable and conformatively flexible spacer at the N-terminal end. As intercalating tricyclic systems acridone, acridine, anthraquinones and in a special case iminostilbene terminate the N-terminal end of the pyrrole chain. The cytotoxicity was examined by the NCI antitumor screening, furthermore, biophysical as well as biochemical studies were performed in order to get some information about the DNA binding properties and topoisomerase inhibition effect of this new series of molecules.

Continuous monitoring of an intentionally-manufactured crack using an automated welding and in-process inspection system

2020

Abstract Automated weld deposition coupled with the real-time robotic Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) is used in this paper. For performance verification of the in-process inspection system, an intentionally embedded defect, a tungsten rod, is introduced into the multi-pass weld. A partially-filled groove (staircase) sample is also manufactured and ultrasonically tested to calibrate the real-time inspection implemented on all seven layers of the weld which are deposited progressively. The tungsten rod is successfully detected in the real-time NDE of the deposited position. The same robotic inspection system was then used to continuously monitor an intentionally-manufactured crack for 20 h.…

Evaluation of the effects of different groove length and thickness of the retainers on the retention of maxillary anterior base metal resin bonded re…

2012

Objectives: The resin-bonded fixed partial dentures have gained immense popularity in recent years as they are more conservative, esthetic, economic and easily fabricated. However debonding is considered the most common cause of failure of resin bonded prosthesis. The objective of the study were to compare the effects of different groove lengths and thickness of retainers on retention of maxillary anterior base metal resin bonded retainers. Study Design: Twenty five metal dies of maxillary central incisor duplicated from pure typhodont teeth (maxillary left central incisors) prepared to receive retainer for resin bonded fixed partial denture having different test designs were made. Five tes…

Numerical study of photolithography system: electromagnetic differential method

2004

The R-matrix propagation algorithm is incorporated into the differential method to achieve an extended capability for modelling a photolithography systems. We show throughout this work the ability of the R-matrix algorithm and differential method to analyse gratings of arbitrary depth, profile, and conductivity without encountering numerical instabilities. We calculate the field intensity and the transmitted amplitudes in the 0 and −1 orders below different masks. We study also the influence of the various parameters (incidence, groove spacing, groove depth and index of refraction) on the field intensity maps and the transmittivity power. These results agree with the experimental patent: we…

Groove Experience: Emotional and Physiological Responses to Groove-Based Music

2009

Theories of music and emotion suggest that subjective affective experience and physiological arousal are elicited by anticipation of musical-structural events. However, little is known about to what extent groove-based music elicits such expectancies, and consequently how it is experienced. Due to the repetitiveness of the groove, it was hypothesised that microtiming in groove might facilitate a type of arousal that is not peak-based, but rather reflects the groove state of listening, which has been conceptualized as a steady mental state in synchronization with the music. An initial qualitative interview study with three groove-based music producers and musicians investigated the subjectiv…

Äänten päättymiskohtiin liittyvä groove-alue : uusi lähestymistapa musiikin groovaavuuden tutkimiseen

2015

Groove as a multidimensional participatory experience

2023

Groove is a popular and widely used concept in the field of music. Yet, its precise definition remains elusive. Upon closer inspection, groove appears to be used as an umbrella term with various connotations depending on the musical era, the musical context, and the individual using the term. Our aim in this article was to explore different definitions and connotations of the term groove so as to reach a more detailed understanding of it. Consequently, in an online survey, 88 participants provided free-text descriptions of the term groove. A thematic analysis revealed that groove is a multifaceted phenomenon, and participants’ descriptions fit into two main categories: music- and experience…

3D RECONSTRUCTION-REVERSE ENGINEERING- DIGITAL FABRICATION OF THE EGYPTIAN PALERMO STONE USING BY SMARTPHONE AND LIGHT STRUCTURED SCANNER

2018

Abstract. This paper presents a pipeline that has been developed to acquire a shape with particular features both under the geometric and radiometric aspects. In fact, the challenge was to build a 3D model of the black Stone of Palermo, where the oldest Egyptian history was printed with the use of hieroglyphs. The dark colour of the material and the superficiality of the hieroglyphs' groove have made the acquisition process very complex to the point of having to experiment with a pipeline that allows the structured light scanner not to lose the homologous points in the 3D alignment phase. For the texture reconstruction we used a last generation smartphone.
