Paraules clau: llegenda; cor; menjat; Decamero ; Boccaccio; estrategia de traduccio Abstract: The extent to which translators in…
The Social Background of Treasure Hunters
2012
We have already referred to the treasure hunt in Westminster Abbey. The organizer and initiator of this venture was Davey Ramsey, the clock- maker of King James I and his successor. Some of his works are now in the British Museum. Ramsey had some financial difficulties but he was well-connected at court. We mentioned in Chapter 6 that he managed to receive royal permits to search for treasure in 1628 and in 1635. Nothing seems to have come of these enterprises. In the winter of 1632/33, he received a permit from the Dean of Westminster to search for treasure in the cloister of the abbey. Ramsey did not undertake the hunt alone. He mustered the support of William Lilly, the renowned London a…
Diode laser spectroscopy of the nu(8) band of the SF(5)Cl molecule.
2003
Abstract Diode laser spectra of SF 5 Cl have been recorded in the ν 8 band region at a temperature of ca. 240 K, a pressure of 0.25 mbar and an instrumental bandwidth of ca. 0.001 cm −1 . Four regions have been studied: a first one in the P -branch (906.849–907.687 cm −1 ), a second one in the Q -branch (910.407–910.944 cm −1 ), and two other ones in the R -branch (913.957–914.556 and 917.853–918.705 cm −1 ). The whole ν 1 / ν 8 dyad of SF 5 35 Cl has been previously recorded in the group of Professor H. Burger in Wuppertal, thanks to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer [J. Mol. Spectrosc. 208 (2001) 169]. These data have thus been combined with our diode laser ones in the aim of refi…
Hybrid Energy Storage for Underground Mining EV
2021
One of the main concerns when it comes to contributions to the carbon footprint is the consumption of fuel by vehicles, more specifically that of mining vehicles. One solution to this problem is replacing the combustion engine vehicles with electric vehicles. This also poses the problem of low power density. This paper proposes a solution of using supercapacitors and hybrid capacitors with the aim of investigating how they can affect the performance of electric vehicles. For this purpose, a background of fuel consumption and alternative solutions to the problem are discussed, a prototype was designed and built. It was found that when supercapacitors and hybrid capacitors were used in combin…
The role of correlations in the high-pressure phase of FeSe
2011
This study addresses the structural and electronic properties of the NiAs- and MnP-type phases dominating in FeSe at high pressures. The analysis is performed using first-principle band structure calculations within the framework of the B3LYP hybrid exchange-correlation functional. Based on the volume-pressure relation deduced from the available experimental data, we optimize the form and internal coordinates of the unit cell, which agree reasonably well with experiment. In particular, the present calculations resolve the structural NiAs-MnP phase transition which occurs at about 10 GPa. Both structures are found to be semiconducting at low pressures and metallizing at about 80-90 GPa. Usin…
Quantum phase slip phenomenon in ultra-narrow superconducting nanorings
2012
The smaller the system, typically - the higher is the impact of fluctuations. In narrow superconducting wires sufficiently close to the critical temperature Tc thermal fluctuations are responsible for the experimentally observable finite resistance. Quite recently it became possible to fabricate sub-10 nm superconducting structures, where the finite resistivity was reported within the whole range of experimentally obtainable temperatures. The observation has been associated with quantum fluctuations capable to quench zero resistivity in superconducting nanowires even at temperatures T-->0. Here we demonstrate that in tiny superconducting nanorings the same phenomenon is responsible for s…
Electronic Properties, Band Structure, and Fermi Surface Instabilities ofNi1+/Ni2+NickelateLa3Ni2O6, Isoelectronic with Superconducting Cuprates
2009
Electronic structure calculations were performed for the mixed-valent Ni(1+)/Ni(2+) nickelate La3Ni2O6, which exhibits electronic instabilities of the Fermi surface similar to that of the isostructural superconducting La2CaCu2O6 cuprate. La3Ni2O6 shows activated hopping, which fits to Mott's variable-range-hopping model with localized states near the Fermi level. However, a simple local spin density approximation calculation leads to a metallic ground state. The calculations including local density approximation+Hubbard U and hybrid functionals indicate a multiply degenerate magnetic ground state. For electron-doped La2ZrNi2O6, which is isoelectronic with La2CaCu2O6, an antiferromagnetic in…
Spectroscopy ofLiΛ9by electroproduction
2015
Background: In the absence of accurate data on the free two-body hyperon-nucleon interaction, the spectra of hypernuclei provides information on the details of the effective hyperon-nucleon interaction.Purpose: To obtain a high-resolution binding-energy spectrum for the ${}^{9}\mathrm{Be}(e,{e}^{\ensuremath{'}}{K}^{+})_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ reaction.Method: Electroproduction of the hypernucleus $_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{9}\mathrm{Li}$ has been studied for the first time with sub-MeV energy resolution in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a $^{9}\mathrm{Be}$ target. In order to increase the counting rate and to provide unambiguous kaon identification, two superconducting septum magn…
Unified description of 2+_1 states within the deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation
2013
We describe low-lying collective states in deformed even-even nuclei within a deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation (dQRPA) by using a single-particle basis with good angular momentum. The statistical factors, accounting for the level occupancy, appear in the dQRPA in a natural way as rotation coefficients that take the intrinsic system to the laboratory system. We have used our model by performing a systematic analysis of E2 transitions from the first ${2}^{+}$ state to the ground state for all superfluid nuclei in the range $50lZ\ensuremath{\le}100$ by using a common charge polarization parameter $\ensuremath{\chi}=0.2$. In spite of its similarity to the QRPA, this method is a…
Effect of carrier transfer on the PL intensity in self-assembled In (Ga) As/GaAs quantum rings
2006
We present results concerning the carrier transfer between In(Ga)As quantum rings in a stacked multilayer structure, which is characterised by a bimodal size distribution. This transfer of carriers explains the observed temperature behaviour of diode lasers based on that kind of stacked layer structures. The inter-ring carrier transfer can be possible by phonon assisted tunnelling from the ground state of the smallring family towards the big-ring family of the bimodal size distribution. This process is thermally activated in the range 40–80 K.
