Creative Tourism. Connecting Fontanelle Cemetery to a Larger Touristic Route
2021
The case study of this paper concerned the Fontanelle cemetery, an underground site with a long and peculiar history shaped by its origin, use and function as well as from its location, Rione Sanità. This area is a popular neighbourhood of Naples with original characteristics and challenges that we tried to learn, understand, and approach. The task of this work was to develop a strategy to connect the site to a larger touristic route through the implementation of Creative Tourism approaches.
Detecting crop irrigation status in orchard canopies with airborne and ASTER thermal imagery
2007
This work provides a description of the research conducted to assess if ASTER satellite data enable the detection of the water status in orchard tree crops. Summer and winter TERRA-ASTER images were acquired over a study area of Seville in southern Spain over a 6-year period. 1076 olive orchards were monitored in this area, obtaining field location, area, tree density, and irrigation status information. Surface temperature images were obtained using the TES method and 0.5 m resolution panchromatic ortho-rectified imagery collected over the entire area to obtain vegetation cover. A comparison study of the temperature difference between orchards under different irrigation schemes is presented…
Conditions and strategies to meet the challenges imposed by the COVID-19-related visiting restrictions in the intensive care unit: A Scandinavian cro…
2022
ObjectivesTo examine conditions and strategies to meet the challenges imposed by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related visiting restrictions in Scandinavian intensive care units.Research methodology/designA cross-sectional survey.SettingAdult intensive care units in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.Main outcome measuresLikert scale responses and free-text comments within six areas: capacity and staffing, visiting policies and access to the unit, information and conferences with relatives, written information, children as relatives and follow-up initiatives.ResultsThe overall response rate was 53% (74/140 participating units). All intensive care units had planned for capacity extensions;…
Ab initio structural and electronic band-structure study of MgSe
2015
We present a careful and detailed ab initio study of the crystal structure and electronic band structure of different crystalline phases of MgSe. Calculations were performed using the full-potential linear augmented plane wave method. To determine the crystal phase of the ground state of MgSe, we computed the total energy as a function of volume for the rock-salt, zinc-blende, wurtzite, and NiAs phases. From the optimized volume, and by using the Birch–Murnaghan equation of state the lattice parameters , the bulk moduli, and its first pressure derivative () for the different phases of MgSe were found. In our calculations, we have used the local density approach for the exchange–correlation …
First-principles and semiempirical calculations forFcenters inKNbO3
1997
The linear muffin-tin-orbital method combined with density functional theory (local approximation) and the semiempirical method of the intermediate neglect of the differential overlap (INDO) based on the Hartree-Fock formalism are used for the study of the $F$ centers (O vacancy with two electrons) in cubic and orthorhombic ferroelectric KNbO$_3$ crystals. Calculations for 39-atom supercells show that the two electrons are considerably delocalized even in the ground state of the defect. Their wave functions extend over the two Nb atoms closest to the O vacancy and over other nearby atoms. Thus, the $F$ center in KNbO$_3$ resembles electron defects in the partially-covalent SiO$_2$ crystal (…
Ground state and electronic spectrum of Cu(ii) and Cu(iii) complexes of N,N′-1,2-phenylenebis-2-mercaptoacetamide
2009
The electronic structure and the UV-vis spectrum of reduced and oxidized model systems of the N,N'-1,2-phenylenebis(2-mercapto-2-methylpropionamide) copper complex have been studied using a multiconfigurational quantum chemical method (CASSCF/CASPT2). The bonds between Cu and the two sulfur ligand atoms have a large covalent character in the oxidized Cu(III) form. As a result of the increased covalency, the effective charge on the Cu atom is actually smaller in the oxidized form. The electronic spectrum for both oxidation states of the complex is in agreement with the experiment for excitation energies and intensities showing that the theoretical description of the electronic structure is e…
"Per via di levare". Scavare e sottrarre in architettura
2014
2019
Abstract This study aims at understanding how the master narratives conveyed by the national accounts given by 14 to 18-year-old Spanish and Portuguese students converge or differ from one another and how they relate to national identity and temporal orientation. Data analysis was carried out in a qualitative approach inspired by Grounded Theory. The results suggest a parallel but conceptually convergent schematic template focused on initial conquests, a golden period of maritime discoveries, and a recent dictatorship overcome by the restoration of democracy. Some particularities of students’ accounts linked to specific historical situations in each country, as well as diversified attitudes…
Tsensuur kommunistlikus Poola Rahvavabariigis
2013
This article discusses the topic of censorship in the communist Poland. It presents a description of the functioning of the office of censorship (Main Office for the Control of Presentations and Public Performances; Główny Urzęd Kontroli Prasy, Publikacji i Widowisk) as well as other forms of informal influence on the authors working for public publishing houses. The underground publications suppressed during the Stalin era as well as difficulties encountered by Polish historians after 1956 will be the subject of the analysis. Furthermore, the article indicates the complementary role of the underground publishers after 1970. These publishing houses had a significant impact on the birth of p…
Expectancy in Sami Yoiks revisited: The role of data-driven and schema-driven knowledge in the formation of melodic expectations
2009
This study extends a previous study concerning melodic expectations in North Sami yoiks (Krumhansl et al., 2000) in which a comparison between expert and non-expert listeners demonstrated the existence of a core set of principles governing melodic expectancies. The previous findings are reconsidered using non-Western listeners (traditional healers from South Africa) in a modeling investigation. Comparison of different models made it possible to separate the role of data-driven and schema-driven models in melodic expectancies and to reveal any possible Western bias in previous studies. The results of the experiment, in which African listeners rated the fitness of probe-tones as continuation…
