Ghost stochastic resonance in FitzHugh–Nagumo circuit

2014

International audience; The response of a neural circuit submitted to a bi-chromatic stimulus and corrupted by noise is investigated. In the presence of noise, when the spike firing of the circuit is analysed, a frequency not present at the circuit input appears. For a given range of noise intensities, it is shown that this ghost frequency is almost exclusively present in the interspike interval distribution. This phenomenon is for the first time shown experimentally in a FitzHugh-Nagumo circuit.

The state of research on software engineering competencies: A systematic mapping study

2022

Considering the critical role of software in modern societies, we face an urgent need to educate more competent software professionals. Software engineering competencies (SEC) are considered the backbone of successfully developing software products. Consequently, SEC has become a hotspot for software engineering research and practice. Although scientific literature on SEC is not lacking, to our knowledge, a comprehensive overview of the current state of SEC research is missing. To that end, we conducted an extensive and systematic review of the SEC literature. We provide an overview of the current state of research on SEC, with a particular focus on common SEC research areas. In addition to…

Programación de microrrobots por bloques

2016

The relevance of point defects in studying silica-based materials from bulk to nanosystems

2019

The macroscopic properties of silica can be modified by the presence of local microscopic modifications at the scale of the basic molecular units (point defects). Such defects can be generated during the production of glass, devices, or by the environments where the latter have to operate, impacting on the devices’ performance. For these reasons, the identification of defects, their generation processes, and the knowledge of their electrical and optical features are relevant for microelectronics and optoelectronics. The aim of this manuscript is to report some examples of how defects can be generated, how they can impact device performance, and how a defect species or a physical phenomenon …

GPU-accelerated time integration of Gross-Pitaevskii equation with discrete exterior calculus

2022

The quantized vortices in superfluids are modeled by the Gross-Pitaevskii equation whose numerical time integration is instrumental in the physics studies of such systems. In this paper, we present a reliable numerical method and its efficient GPU-accelerated implementation for the time integration of the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The method is based on discrete exterior calculus which allows us the usage of more versatile spatial discretization than traditional finite difference and spectral methods are applicable to. We discretize the problem using six different natural crystal structures and observe the correct choices of spatial tiling to decrease the truncation error…

A Power Law Behavior in the Incentivized Italian Photovoltaic Market

2018

The Italian photovoltaic (PV) marketis analyzed by using the data contained in the database that describes all PV Plants installed in Italy under the incentive program called “2nd Conto Energia”. It is shown that the cumulative probability distribution of the size of the installed PV plants has a broken power tail. An approach to partially quantify the effect of the economic, juridical and technical rules is introduced in order to show how the regulatory body influences the power tail of the cumulative probability curve.

Energie informatique et choix de matériel

1995

The choice of computers been made according to a minimax: one chooses the most powerful computer in the less powerful category. We show here that, in a simple case, if one takes into account the time of equipment utilization, this rule can be given in cause. We study then a case more complicated including some technical parameters like the case of multiprocessor machine and including other human parameters like the intensity of task submission.

Single Event Upsets Induced by Direct Ionization from Low-Energy Protons in Floating Gate Cells

2017

Floating gate cells in advanced NAND Flash memories, with single-level and multi-level cell architecture, were exposed to low-energy proton beams. The first experimental evidence of single event upsets by proton direct ionization in floating gate cells is reported. The dependence of the error rate versus proton energy is analyzed in a wide energy range. Proton direct ionization events are studied and energy loss in the overlayers is discussed. The threshold LET for floating gate errors in multi-level and single-level cell devices is modeled and technology scaling trends are analyzed, also discussing the impact of the particle track size. peerReviewed

A System to Control the Atmosphere in the Headspace of the Malaxation Machine to Improve the Fatty Acid Composition of Extra Virgin Olive Oils

2015

In recent years, oxygen content regulation during malaxation has been noted as a process parameter. As concluded by many studies, the presence of oxygen during malaxation has a key role in for improving the quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) in terms of volatile and phenolic components. There are, however, very few studies of the influence of oxygen in the malaxation machine headspace on the fatty acid composition of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of oxygen in the malaxation machine headspace on Nocellara del Belice EVOO fatty acids. During of the malaxation process, the atmosphere inside the malaxation machine was modified by blowing…
